Monomad: Snow Leopard

The snow leopard has a range that stretches across the mountain range's of 12 countries in Asia. This covers over 750,000 square miles, with around 50–60% of this in China. Most of this habitat is unexplored, and the snow leopard can be almost mysterious in that they are hard to spot in more remote areas.

They are able to live in some of the harshest conditions on the planet with a thick coat that also helps them blend in incredible well with Asia's steep and rocky mountains.

This one resides at the Calgary Zoo, and even the coldest weather here is quite bearable for this incredible feline. Even here, it can almost seem elusive to get a good view inside the enclosure; I have only seen him once in 5 attempts to visit.

The cat in the photos is beautiful, but one small thing, it is absolutely not a snow leopard. The cat in the photos is a Lynx, this can be seen from the floss on the ears. The Snow Leopard does not have these floss. There are several external differences, for example, the tail. That of the Snow Leopard is long, and that of the Lynx is shorter. The spots of both are also different, those of the Snow Leopard are much more unevenly distributed than the spots of the Lynx, and a Snow Leopard is considerably larger than a Lynx.
