Hello! Hello!.. Hi my dearest Hiver’s! How is everybody? How was your weekend? Did you go out and have some fun with your loved ones? For today’s blog let me share with you all how we spend our weekend visiting and exploring a tourist spot here in Cebu Philippines. Actually I only heard and saw this place in the History book before in my high school days. This place catches my attention because this is renowned as the oldest and Smallest Fort in the Philippines. The Place name was” FORT SAN PEDRO” in Cebu city. Significant for historical landmark, showcasing it’s past as the military defense structure during Spanish colonization established in 1565.
Weekends are our only time to visit and explore because there is no class and we have time to bond and have some fun after a busy Monday to Friday school day’s. We decided to go out and have some fresh air away from home. Since we arrived and transferred to live here in CEBU I have decided that we would visit and explore place’s to unwind and relax.
It was a bit cloudy that morning and we woke up early. I cooked breakfast and took a bath ,and ate a breakfast meal with black coffee so we would leave home early before Mister SUN started to shine. I researched the place and it says it would be better to visit and explore the place in the morning time when the Sun is not that hot.
We rode a bus two times and it took two hours to reach the place. When we arrived it was good timing because it is not yet sunny in FORT SAN PEDRO. We took pictures from the outside till inside and all the areas in this place. In the entrance we saw lots of painting’s telling the history of FoRT San Pedro.
We pay an entrance fee with a discount because my daughter is a student while me is a PWD and they give us a discount. While we were in line to get inside we saw a group of foreigner’s tourist who listened to their tour guide explaining and telling them about the story of Fort SAN PEDRO. So while we fall in line I also try to listen to the tourist guide.
When we were inside we were amazed by the place, because it was small but beautiful. It has a nice landscape with pretty flowers.
We also saw the name Cinnamon tree ( KANINGAG) in bisaya. A famous spice in the laurel family. The branch of this tree is used in different cuisines, drinks like tea or coffee, in pastries like bread and cakes. I was surprised that we were able to see this plant here because I loved to eat Cinnamon breads or coffee. I only heard from my Mom about KANINGAG but I do not know that KANINGAG is the bisaya term of CINNAMON.
CINNAMON TREE also known as KANINGAG in Bisaya
The place have old benches a good spot so sit and relax.
We went to the upper part of the Fort. From there we can see the entire place inside of the fort and the outside of the fort too and feel the fresh wind from the sea that blows us and that feels so good. Right there guard’s can see the entire or around the Fort. From the top we can saw the landscape in the ground.
We also saw the CANNONS they used before to shoot enemies in the distance. Spaniards are so smart for building this Fort that is well planned and a nice structure.
We sit and feel the wind then we toke pictures so we have remembrance on this Fort.
We kept walking until we decided to go down and then we saw and entered the GALLERY. There are painting of the past.
One side of the FORT there was a stall selling memorabilia that sells items all from Cebu.
MY daughter suggested that we would leave the place because the sun is a bit up and she is tired of walking already. She makes me happy because she is a home buddy but she gives me time and goes with me to visit this historical place here in Cebu City.
This is all for now my dear Hiver’s and I hope you like our visit and exploration of the smallest and oldest fort here in the Philippines. My heartfelt thanks to those reading my blog up to the very end. I wish you all a very fruitful day ahead that is filled with laughter and a heart full of Love. I am your Hiver friend @ronimarie82 from the Philippines.
God bless everyone.
