As I walked with my friend and his two dogs this evening, the setting sun cast a warm orange glow over the harvested rice fields, painting the sky with scattered clouds.
Walking through the rice fields is something I do often, and I love it. Today, most of the rice has been harvested, so it's mostly brown. But there are some areas where new rice is being planted by the farmers.
The air was cool because the sun was going down. I heard kids playing and shouting as they flew kites. Some kids were riding electric bikes on the road nearby the rice fields. Some people were sitting by the side of the road, spending their time with their friends or family.
One little boy, excited by the sight of the dogs, ran over wanting to pet them. Just as he reached out, his parents called him back. It was a cute moment, and the dogs, being very friendly, would have loved the attention.
As we walked, I enjoyed talking with my friend. We talk about everything, from big things like life, health, and work to small things like the latest political news or celebrities who lost their fame.
Today was a good day. Being with my friend and enjoying the simple things made it felt great. The beauty of the sunset, the joy of the kids, and the calm of the fields all came together.
As the sun went down, the sky turned from orange to a soft twilight. It was a perfect end to the day. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? But for now, I'm happy to enjoy the calm and the company of a good friend (err, and his dogs).
