Last Sunday, June 30th, 2024, my family and I had a wonderful outing at Renon Square. We've visited this place many times before, but this time it felt different for a reason that I will share later. It was a car-free day morning, which runs from 7 to 10 AM. The square was packed with people, all enjoying the bustling atmosphere.
Joining me were my wife, our 11-year-old son, our 17-year-old daughter, and my 20-year-old nephew. The day was filled with activities and sights. The Balinese police held an exhibition with various displays from different regions of Bali. We saw motorcycles from the mobile brigade and many other fascinating exhibits.
After exploring the exhibition, we wandered into the market that sets up every Sunday. This market offers a wide variety of foods, from traditional local dishes to Western cuisine. My kids and nephew decided to explore on their own, while my wife and I headed to the ceramics section. There, we found some amazing deals on rejected ceramics.
My wife bought a mug and a small vase, each costing only 5,000 rupiah. Despte being rejects, they were of very good quality, and it wasn't long before the place was empty as others quickly snapped up the bargains.
Feeling a bit hungry, I suggested we buy some lumpia. My wife was delighted, as she used to love this snack before COVID. We sat by the side of the road, enjoying our lumpia and soaking in the lively atmosphere. People of all ages were out, some exercising, others just enjoying the morning.
Eventually, we reunited with my son and nephew, who had been exploring and playing cards on the pavement. My daughter was off with her friends, but I wasn't worried, knowing we'd all meet up at home later.
Though I felt a bit tired and under the weather, the day was truly special. To top it all off, when we got home, my daughter and her friends surprised me with a birthday cake. I couldn't have asked for a better day, surrounded by my loved ones and enjoying the vibrant life at Renon Square.
