A Little Tour of My Edible Garden (No Flowers Today) 🌱

Hello Hive gardeners.. 👋

Today, I’m putting the pretty orchids and colorful blooms aside to give you a peek at what we’re actually growing to eat..
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as stepping outside and plucking dinner right off the plant.. 😊

The Dragon fruit ❤️
First up, let’s talk about a couple of newer friends in our garden..

Take a look at that funky plant!!
That’s my young dragon fruit (Pithaya)
See those sharp little spikes?! It’s not messing around 😆
These cuttings came from a wonderful friend of mine and I'm treating them like treasures..

Right now, they’re just chunky, green stalks in their pots, reaching for the sun but I’m dreaming of those vibrant, electric-pink fruits..
Wish me luck in getting them to bear fruits in the next 5 years.. 😆

Then there's the Ginger plant!!

I love the look of it,, those long, lush, green leaves are so beautiful and tropical..
It's hidden in a shady spot, slowly growing its amazing, spicy roots underground..
It's so handy to have fresh ginger right outside for tea or cooking..

Now the Papaya: The family favorite (Maybe Too Favorite) 🤣
I've got to introduce you to the giant of our garden,, the Papaya tree..

My mom must have a magical green thumb, because these trees are literally everywhere!!
like, they’re in the front yard, the backyard, peeking near the balcony, even behind my bedroom window,, they’re thriving all over the place..

The trees themselves are tall and striking, with those big, star-shaped leaves making their own little canopy against the sky.. (see the blue sky? so cool)
We have some great big green papayas hanging right off the trunk, ready for cooking..
They’re such a staple for us and the fact that we can just step out and grab one is a true blessing.. 😊

Ladyfinger.. From Pod to Seedling
Finally, we come to the fuzzy, bright green delight,, Ladyfinger (or Okra)

These pods are doing so well!!
You can see them standing tall, covered in tiny, soft hairs, just soaking up the sunshine..
We’ve already been enjoying the fresh ones in our meals but some of them have been allowed to get a bit mature..

This is actually on purpose..
We're letting those big pods fully dry out so we can harvest the seeds..
It’s a great cycle,, using the old pods to start a whole new batch of healthy seedlings for the next planting season..
It’s like the plants are giving us a little gift for the future.. 😜

It’s just a simple garden but it feeds us,, it’s pretty to look at and it connects us to nature..
I hope you enjoyed this quick tour of my edibles!! 😊

What's the one vegetable or fruit you can't live without in your own garden?
For us, I think it's the papaya.. we eat it for snacks, we have it in our main dish like chicken.. etc..

I’m excited with your dragon fruit, hope it bears more fruits in the future. The ginger and papaya trees looks so healthy too!

Ohh, thank you so much.. we don't really put much attention to the papayas,, my mom just toss the seeds everywhere and they grew healthy and big.. even delicious
