Namaste!
On November 9, 2024, I planted some potato sprouts in the biggest pot in my garden. This was the first time I was planting potatoes in my garden, meaning I had no experience growing potatoes, which caused me to face some difficulties in taking care of them. According to what I read, potato plants also have lovely flowers and the time when the plants wither along with those flowers is considered as the right time for potato harvesting. But none of the potato plants planted in two pots produced any flowers and the plants withered after completing their maximum life of 4 months. I still don't know how this happened, maybe this variety of potato is different. And now I could even see some potatoes on the soil surface.

Well, these are the potato plants grown in the big pot which were lush and green like a forest till a month ago and now except for 2 or 3 plants, all the leaves have dried up completely and also since it has been 105 days since they were sown, so according to that also this is probably the right time for harvesting them.

You can see how tall these plants have grown, although they never stood straight because their main stem is green and full of water, so to keep them upright they have to be tied to something, which I also showed you in that small potted plant.

To be honest, I was hoping for the best but was a little scared as I had not seen anything like what I had read about them. But while uprooting the plants, when I saw these potatoes hanging from their roots, both my wife and I became so happy and excited.

And the excitement was so intense that we forgot to take pictures of digging out the potatoes and both of us just started looking for potatoes in the mud. Those moments are always truly beautiful when you achieve something by doing what you love to do!

These potatoes are undoubtedly bigger in size and double in number than the potatoes I had taken out from a small pot a few days ago. Although this is not as good a crop as I had thought, but for a first attempt, this is amazing We will have food for a week with these many potatoes, so I am thankful to the universe for this. :)

See, the size of these potatoes is much bigger than the potatoes harvested earlier. One reason I can think of is the time and space these plants got, this pot was more than 3 times bigger than that pot, so obviously the potatoes would have got more space to grow under the soil and also I have harvested these plants after almost 4 months which means they also have got enough time to grow bigger.

However, this is not the end. I have to learn from this experience and take better care of these plants next time. Then hopefully we will harvest an even better crop next time. Till then stay tuned!

I Hope you enjoyed my Gardening and Phone Photography! :)
