Not Too Much. Hive Garden Weekly Prompt

in HiveGarden7 months ago (edited)

It is my pleasure to know about this prompt. It is what I would love to engage with. My engagement on the blockchain is spiced by the various contests and prompts which gives me impetus to create contents.

This year's harvest didn't turn out too well for me in Nigeria. There were some factors that altered my expectations. My expectations and my ambitions in pushing on with the farm this year tend to encounter some unpleasant circumstances.

At the beginning of the season, I had made an effort to plant maize early so that I would be able to harvest maize twice this year. Maize can be harvested twice if one plants it early. It is a crop that can mature within two months. So, if one plants it in April/May, one is likely going to harvest it in June/July. Thereafter, one could plant the second tier that could be harvested around September/October.

We could always make our plans but God knows what will be. When we started this year, I unknowingly made a mistake by planting a breed of maize whose productivity has been locked. The maize seeds were given to me by a friend for consumption. I left out some for planting. It was after I planted and the maize was already growing that I learnt (from the guy who gave me) that the maize was not going to produce.

Why? He explained that the producers of the special breed of maize locked the productivity of the seeds such that anyone who planted it would not have an encouraging harvest. Really, the harvest of that maize wasn't anything to ride home about.

Another factor that affected our harvest this year is the limited rainfall. We haven't had rainfall since early July in Ilorin, Kwara State Nigeria. We haven't been having it this way. This year rainfall has caused serious damage to our crops. A lot of people went to farm because of the high inflation rate in the country. But to our surprise, we only have limited rainfall this year.

So talking about too much, that isn't coming out where we are. But notwithstanding, some of the crops like cassava are still thriving. The harvest of such crops hasn't come yet. We are hopeful that those ones will make us happy.
