Chapter V – The Betrayal of Pang Zadopoda
Upon the misty heights of Grenslur Fortress, the banners of MarOgène whipped in the wind, marking the fragile boundary between order and the creeping chaos. Inside the Iron Croak Council Hall, General Pang Zadopoda of the Sixth Cuirassier Division bowed before Queen Daisi.
— We have secured the northern pass, Your Majesty. No spies have crossed the Singing Moats for seven lunar cycles.
Daisi, whose beguiling gaze never softened the sharpness of her judgments, nodded slowly.
— And the Fragments?
— Still missing… but rumors persist. The foxes of Tauhbochinen speak of one spotted among the ruins of Gladeen.
A heavy silence followed. Only the drip of moss water and the gentle rustling of her winged advisors disturbed the air.
But that night, Pang did not return to his usual quarters.
Instead, he took a detour, slipping through forgotten corridors until he reached a crypt known only to a handful of frogs. There, in the damp shadows, he pulled from his cloak an ancient map, half-eaten by time and marked with glyphs once protected by the Ancestral Orders. One of the Fragments… was clearly shown, encircled by a red spiral: Deep Nyssar.
And Pang... was not alone.
In the darkness, a figure awaited him. Its armor was not forged by MarOgène’s smiths. Too slender. Too black. Too... silent.
— You have what we need, rasped a voice, dry and brittle as sun-cracked reeds.
— I want safety for my clan... and the power I’ve always been denied.
An exchange took place. The map, traded for a vial of green, glowing liquid—unstable and alive: essence drawn from the Breath of Velorn itself. A forbidden relic.
Pang, once loyal, now traitor, vanished into the depths of night—leaving behind not only a vulnerable kingdom… but the promise of a war where the lines of loyalty would never again be so clearly drawn.
Chapitre V – La Trahison de Pang Zadopoda
Sur les hauteurs brumeuses de la forteresse de Grenslur, les bannières de MarOgène claquaient au vent, marquant la frontière entre l’ordre fragile et le chaos rampant. Là, dans la salle du Conseil des Croâs de Fer, Pang Zadopoda, général de la sixième division des Cuirassiers, s’inclinait devant la reine Daisi.
— Nous avons sécurisé le passage nord, Majesté. Aucun espion n’a franchi les Douves Chanteuses depuis sept cycles lunaires.
Daisi, dont le regard enjôleur n’atténuait jamais la sévérité de ses jugements, hocha doucement la tête.
— Et les éclats ?
— Toujours introuvables… mais les rumeurs persistent. Les renards de Tauhbochinen parlent d’un Fragment repéré dans les ruines de Gladeen.
Un silence pesant tomba. Seuls les gouttes du plafond et les battements discrets des ailes de ses conseillers-ailés troublaient l’atmosphère.
Mais cette nuit-là, Pang ne retourna pas à son quartier habituel.
Il prit un détour, emprunta des couloirs oubliés, jusqu’à une crypte dont seule une poignée de grenouilles connaissait l’existence. Là, dans l’ombre moite, il extirpa de sa cape une carte ancienne, à moitié rongée, marquée de symboles gardés secrets par les Ordres Ancestraux. L’un des Fragments… y figurait clairement, entouré d’une spirale rouge : Nyssar profond.
Et Pang… n’était pas seul.
Dans l’obscurité, une silhouette l’attendait. Son armure n'était pas forgée par les artisans de MarOgène. Trop fine. Trop noire. Trop… silencieuse.
— Tu as ce que nous cherchons, souffla la voix, rauque et rauchante comme les roseaux séchés.
— Je veux la sécurité de mon clan… et le pouvoir qu'on m’a toujours refusé.
Un échange se fit. La carte contre une fiole de lumière verte, pure, instable : une essence extraite du Souffle de Velorn lui-même. Une relique interdite.
Pang, jadis loyal, désormais traître, disparut dans les ténèbres, laissant derrière lui non seulement un royaume vulnérable… mais aussi la promesse d’une guerre où les lignes de fidélité ne seraient plus jamais tracées aussi clairement.
