Initiative YouHive: Music video "The Sound of Silence" The Concert in Central Park (Eng - Esp)

Greetings dear friends of YouHive. Here I am again super excited with the theme of this initiative, reflecting I think I needed something like this to share my tastes and musical opinions.

Today I want to share a video that makes my skin crawl for long minutes, and not because it is a music video full of colors and effects like those big stages of today, but on the contrary, for me it is better a simple concert with a deep message than a stage with all the technology and empty lyrics. I'm talking about “The Sound of Silence”.

Hoy le quiero compartir un video que me eriza la piel por largos minutos, y no porque se se un video musical lleno de colores y efectos como esos grandes escenarios de hoy en día, sino por todo lo contrario, para mi es mejor un concierto simple con un mensajes profundo que un escenario con toda la tecnología y con letras vacías. les hablo de “The Sound of Silence”.

It was written by Paul Simon in the mid-1960s, at the height of social change in the United States. The song, in essence, talks about isolation, the disconnection between people, and how silence can be as loud as a scream... or even louder. That first line-“Hello darkness, my old friend...”-is simply iconic. There's a serene sadness there, as if greeting an old companion: loneliness.

La escribió Paul Simon a mediados de los años 60, en plena época de cambios sociales en Estados Unidos. La canción, en esencia, habla sobre el aislamiento, la desconexión entre las personas, y cómo el silencio puede ser tan fuerte como un grito… o incluso más. Esa primera línea “Hello darkness, my old friend…” es simplemente icónica. Hay una tristeza serena allí, como si estuviera saludando a una vieja compañera: la soledad.

Every time I listen to “The Sound of Silence”, I feel like I go into a kind of trance. It's a song that doesn't just play: it envelops you, grabs you inside, and makes you think. And no matter how many times I've heard it, I'm always struck by that combination of melancholic beauty and profound message. It's as if it speaks in whispers directly to the soul.
And although the lyrics can be interpreted in many ways, for me it's like a silent critique of the modern world, of how we fill ourselves with noise, with superficial things, and in the end we still don't really listen to ourselves. Silence, in that sense, is not peace, but disconnection.

Cada vez que escucho “The Sound of Silence”, siento que entro como en una especie de trance. Es una canción que no simplemente suena: te envuelve, te agarra por dentro, y te hace pensar. Y no importa cuántas veces la haya oído, siempre me impacta esa combinación de belleza melancólica con mensaje profundo. Es como si hablara en susurros directamente al alma.
Y aunque la letra se puede interpretar de muchas formas, para mí es como una crítica silenciosa al mundo moderno, a cómo nos llenamos de ruido, de cosas superficiales, y al final seguimos sin escucharnos de verdad. El silencio, en ese sentido, no es paz, sino desconexión.

Now, if we talk about memorable moments where this song shined, I have to mention The Concert in Central Park, in 1981. That day was magical. More than 500,000 people gathered in New York to see Simon & Garfunkel reunited after years apart. And when the first chords of “The Sound of Silence” sounded, the silence of the audience was almost sacred. Imagine half a million people silent, listening attentively. It was such an intimate moment in the midst of so many people... as if they all felt the same thing at the same time.

Ahora, si hablamos de momentos memorables donde esta canción brilló, tengo que mencionar The Concert in Central Park, en 1981. Ese día fue mágico. Más de 500.000 personas reunidas en Nueva York para ver a Simon & Garfunkel reunidos después de años separados. Y cuando sonaron los primeros acordes de “The Sound of Silence”, el silencio del público fue casi sagrado. Imagínate medio millón de personas calladas, escuchando atentos. Fue un momento tan íntimo en medio de tanta gente… como si todos sintieran lo mismo al mismo tiempo.

Personally, this song serves as a companion on those gray days, when you need to think or just be quiet. It reminds me that sometimes not saying anything also says a lot. That silence has a voice... and that you have to know how to listen to it.

Personalmente, esta canción sirve de acompaña en esos días grises, cuando necesitas pensar o simplemente estar en silencio. Me recuerda que a veces no decir nada también dice mucho. Que el silencio tiene voz… y que hay que saber escucharla.
