Splinterlands: A'lan Musketeer is good in Frontier

in Splinterlands8 hours ago

Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because my opponent used A'lan Musketeer.

Featured cards

A'lan Musketeer is a neutral monster that costs 8 mana. It only has the double strike ability, but I think it is a fairly good card in Frontier. I got this card recently, and I have noticed that it's a good addition because it is neutral and it can be placed in most fights if I need it. I only have this card at level 1, but the level 2 version of this card is looking amazing as it would gain another ranged attack.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Heavy Hitters and Weak Magic. This means that all monsters gain the knock-out ability, and magic damage will hit the armor first before it damages health. There is also 75 mana available, and I can use fire, life, or death splinter.

I use Thalgrimore as my summoner for the -1 health. Nim Guard Captain is my tank with void. Spellmonger is my backup monster to tank any opportunity monsters. Harvester is my 3rd monster with weaken. Black Widow is a backup tank as it is my tankiest ranged monster. A'lan Musketeer and Lenore Nevermore are my damage dealers in the back.

My plan is to have Nim Guard Captain work as a good tank against any magic monsters. Spellmonger is a great monster to use because it has thorns and low health, so opportunity monsters tend to hit this first. After that is Harvester as a support because the reduced health makes it more likely for the thorns to kill off any opportunity monsters. The rest are all ranged damage dealers, as I find them more useful when the monsters are using a monster like Nim Guard Captain.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. My opponent is using an opportunity monster, so I am guaranteed to have it die when it lands an attack on Spellmonger. Also, the taunt monsters mean that my opponent will be taking some damage too. This match could still go to my opponent if my tank goes down.

Round 4

round 4.png
My opponents and I traded blows, and we are both down to 3 monsters left. This match will be decided by whoever can kill off the monsters faster. I think that I have the advantage due to my backup tank having more health.

I ended up winning this match a few rounds later.

Conclusion

The battle this time did not play out as I expected, but I am glad that my strategy did work out to an extent. Spell Monger helped me wipe out the opportunity monster, and A'lan Musketeer was able to deal damage with the rest of my ranged monsters. This let me kill off my opponent and the 2 speed on A'lan Musketeer isn't that bad. It wasn't as likely to miss attacks. It depends on how you use your cards, and in this battle, I think that A'lan Musketeer did its job as a damage dealer.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I don't have it and I'm unsure how good it is, probably the best at level 2
