Eumerus figurans

in Nature Observer23 days ago

Among the green leaves that look ordinary, there is a small creature that catches my attention. He is standing gracefully on the leaf. At first I thought it was a bee, after observing for a while it turned out that it was not a bee but rather Eumerus figurans. Try to look closely, its tiny body is shiny black decorated with a striped pattern of silver mixed with gold. Its entire body is also protected by thick, fine fur.

Judging from the color and pattern, it is indeed very similar to a bee. However, there are two things that are very easy to distinguish, namely the wings and antennae. Eumerus figurans has one pair of wings and short antennae. While bees have two pairs of wings and long antennae. Eumerus figurans is a lucky insect, it is lucky to have characteristics that resemble bees. Predators don't like bees, so this insect feels a little safer.

Great shots! Does it sting like a bee?

This insect does not sting, it does not have a sting apparatus. It is safe to approach not harmful to humans.
