Common lime butterfly

in Nature Observer6 days ago

Amidst the serene green foliage, a butterfly with beautiful wings rested seemingly taking a break from a long journey. It was a common lime butterfly, known scientifically as papilio demoleus, a medium-sized species belonging to the papilionidae family. Although it appeared calm while perched on the leaf, it refused to let me get too close, whenever I approached, it would fly off to another spot. Consequently, I had to photograph it from a distance.

The butterfly displayed a stunning array of colors, cream, black, and orange accented by subtle bluish markings that resembled small eyes. Every detail of the color pattern on its wings seemed deliberate rather than accidental, appearing absolutely perfect and exquisitely precise. Those small, eye-like spots serve as a defense mechanism false eyes designed to deceive predators, which typically target their prey's head.
