This is Lilioceris cheni which is a species of plant leaf-eating beetle from the Chrysomelidae family which is known for its tendency to attack various types of plants, but the most frequently targeted by Lilioceris cheni are lilies, I found this beautiful beetle while walking around betel nut garden near the house, I saw them among the areca leaves with red scars sticking out of them, I approached slowly to capture the moment and share it with all of you.
The physical characteristics of Lilioceris cheni are quite easy to recognize, I estimate that this adult beetle has a body size of around 8 millimeters with a bright red body color and a black head, the bright color of the body makes this insect very easy to see among the leaves even when they move from one leaf to the other leaves, the two antennae on the head of this beetle also have their own unique characteristics, in my opinion this beetle is one of the most beautiful species in the wild.
from a brief observation that I did, I discovered the fact that one of the things that makes Lilioceris cheni a dangerous pest is their voracious way of eating, I noticed that there were several small holes around where they were when I captured the picture and that shows that Lilioceris cheni made small holes to suck fluids from the leaves of the plant, their eating activity makes the areca leaves dry in some parts, and I assume that if the population of Lilioceris cheni is large it will have a negative impact on the plants, so I think that they are hiding the secret of damage despite their beauty, I'm sure no one would believe that they are a threat.
