Genus Selenicereus

Last night, I discovered a very interesting sight in my yard—dragon fruit flowers (Genus Selenicereus) were in full bloom! This moment is quite special because dragon fruit flowers only bloom at night, and their beauty can be said to be quite short before finally withering at dawn.

When you first see it, the petals are wide open with a pure white color that contrasts greatly with the golden yellow center. It is large and emits a distinctive fragrant aroma, perhaps to attract the attention of pollinating insects such as night moths or bats.

I tried taking some photos with additional lighting to make the details clearer. When you look closely, the stamens and pistils look very complex, reflecting the uniqueness of this flower which develops on a climbing cactus.

Apart from its beauty, this flower is also an important part of the growth cycle of the dragon fruit that we know. If the pollination process is successful, in the next few weeks, the fruit will begin to develop and eventually become delicious dragon fruit.

NOTE: I first wrote the article above in Indonesian, which is my own language, then I translated it using English with the help of Goggle.
