I Learnt How To Make Cables In Crochet

in NeedleWorkMonday4 months ago
Few months ago I came across a post on Facebook about some crochet prodigy. I think he was 9 or 11 years old. I can't remember that clearly. Basically he talked about his work and how fast he can make stuff and that he uses crochet to train the stability of his hands since he wants to become a surgeon.

Walk with me yeah His name is Jonah i hope i got that right. I saw the video and I was mind blown like this kid makes stuff that I've never dreamt of. I guess that's what prodigy means lol. But yeah one of his pieces stood out to me. It was a sweater, a blue sweater and on the sides it had this cable pattern on it.

I actually used to think those patterns were specific to knitting only so when I saw them I was like yeah it's a knitting thing so there was no point in researching since I'm a crocheter. But then I saw it on this boys lage and I was like wait that's a crochet prodigy yeah. Which means he does crochet. Which also means this stitch is crocheted.

Honestly I was so happy because I always thought of how unique the stitch is and how pretty it'll look if I put it on any of my pieces. I dunno if you get ot bit like that joy I had at that point knew no bounds. But I got caught up with work and honestly it slipped away and u forgot I had someone to do a research on.

And boom I saw a video on Instagram yesterday or two days ago. A fiber artist made a video like “y'all I just learnt to make cables in crochet, prepare tp be sick of me” and it clicked. Like hey I was supposed to learn that. Good thing I had time on my hands I hurriedly went to grab my crochet supplies and got to work.

Deep down I was scared that it'll be so hard and I won't be able to make it come out the way it should. Yesh I ran to YouTube. Searched for a tutorial video and I got to work. When I finished the first line I was still praying. Like please let this one come out neat.

I made a few more rows and I saw the tiny cables coming out and I was like “awwwwwn my tiny babies” trust me the thoughts that go on in my head when I'm crocheting are very funny especially when I succeed.

When I started getting a hang of the stitches I was like how about a little Monochrome from the queen of Monochrome so I added black yarn to it. Lol. The number of black and white things I've made needs to be studied. To me I just love it. It's either I make just black or black and white or black and some odd colors and I have a fair skin so I don't have to worry about my weird choice of colors.

Now I just have to figure out how to test out what I've learnt.

How cool is that. That is the beauty of youtube in that you can find all sorts of tutorial.
Looks great and the more you make them, the faster those cables will get! The babies will multiply

Hehe, they definitely will. Youtube is actually very outstanding. I still don't understand why people don't use it that much.

Oh I think YouTube is used a lot. Funnily enough it is what we watch on an evening.

Oh, that's something over here. I doubt it's used that much.

I think I’m learning too, seeing so many different stitches in crocheting.

That'll be so lovely.

This is cute and complicated at the same time. I love trying out new things too especially from YouTube and trying to be the best I can.
You did a nice job 👏🏾😍

I'm smiling right now. Thank you so much. Youtube really is the best place to learn to make things. It's funny how most people avoid the app.

Very funny , they are missing a lot . We can only sympathize with them 💔😂

Cable stitches?
Wow!
They look like the waves stitches but this actually has the cable on top of the base stitches. That’s really creative. Imagine using this for a bag…it’ll eat so bad!

Likeeeeeeeee. Ah, you've given me an idea. I'm definitely using this for a bag.

Yess!

Go make a bag ... and show it off!

Okayyy

It looks pretty cool. Good to see how you made this. Well done! Keep it up!

Thank you so much for the encouragement. 😁😁

You make it look so easy, but I know it isn't/ I have been looking for another hobby to take up. I was thinking of crocheting, but not sure. I think it would be something I would do to make things for homeless veterans and stuff.

That sounds nice. Besides, it's not that hard. I'm sure if you try you'll get it.

Thanks. I remember someone trying to teach me when I was a little kid. However, when I was little, I did not want to sit still for stuff like that.

True. I can teach you if you want.

I will keep that in mind, but doubt I will pick it up anytime soon. 😀 Thanks for offering.

Sure!
