Ever since I made that hair scarf from my grandma’s old cloth, I’ve never had peace at home. All of a sudden, everyone wants me to make them something from Grandma’s cloth. Everyone wants a piece of it. I have a long list of what my sisters want me to make for them but I started with a bralette. One of my sisters who likes going to the beach just like me requested for a bralette. I wanted to use just the cloth for everything but she wanted me to add crochet so I tried something new.
I decided to make the bra cups with crochet and the others parts with the cloth. I had to also make do of the yarn I had around which made it very challenging in the beginning. I wanted to use all brown but the brown yarn wasn’t enough so I had to add a different color.
I spent about 3 hours on the whole project.
The materials I used:
• 1.60mm crochet hook
• Needle
• Leftover yarns
• A piece of Grandma’s cloth
I started by making the bra cups. I chained 14 and the made a row of half double crochet. At the end, I made the increasing point where I made 2 half double crochet, a chain and 2 half double crochet. I went around the foundation with half double crochet and anytime I reached the increasing point, I repeated the same thing.
I then added floral designs at the edge by making 5 double crochets in one stitch
I continued with the down part which was attaching the cups to the cloth.I now sewed the bra cup to the band using needle and yarn. I made sure to attach them using the colors I used for the bra cups.
I then went ahead to sew the straps that would be used to tie the bralette around the neck. I used needle and yarn for that as well. For the straps, I cut a very long thin rectangle from the cloth and then divided it into two.
The last thing I did was to make triangular shapes at the ends of the bands to make them easier to be tied.
The result
I was going to iron it when my sister took it from me with so much excitement. I’m glad I took pictures before leaving my room. I have other upcycling projects to make for my sisters from Grandma’s cloth. I always knew upcycling made me happy but this was on a different level. You should have seen how smiley I was when I began this project.
I couldn’t envision how it was going to turn out but I kept on going and I’m glad it turned out really nice. It was really fun doing this. Thank you for your time.
