The most popular and well known exhibit at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago is the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven.
This glass domed room is filled with thousands of butterflies, pools of water, flowers, trees, and over 40 different species of butterflies flying around freely.
Every day they do a First Flight Butterfly Release and visitors learn about the life cycle from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. Seeing the newly-emerged butterflies and moths take flight for the very first time is an incredible experience!
Chrysalises are shipped to the Nature Museum in the mail from butterfly farms around the world.
Plates of over ripe fruits are placed around for the butterflies to feed on.
I have so many photos of butterflies that I will divide them into a few posts. I hope you enjoy seeing these.
All photos are from my family albums.
