Lost Motivation

I'm having a really hard time being ambitious this morning. Probably not a great thing given it is the first day of school. Trust me, I had grand plans to tackle a handful of issues head on this morning, but it seems every single one I try to check off my list is met with failure.

Perhaps it's just the fact that my mind seems to be somewhere else this morning. I mean, when you spend the past weekend with views like the one above, it's kind of hard to get back into "work mode" isn't it?

@mrsbozz and I spent a wonderful weekend in Cadillac, Michigan this past weekend. It was just what we needed to officially say goodbye to the Summer and refresh ourselves before tackling the next couple weeks of absolute bedlam.

It's actually kind of amazing to me that people are able to clock out so completely during the summer months. It's a bit different for me given the fact that I have to work all summer unlike most school employees. That isn't to say that they don't spend time preparing lessons and things like that in the "off season". However it never fails there is a large number of people who come back in the fall and it's like their first day on the job.

They can't remember their login, they don't remember how to use a computer. Simple concepts that should be fairly simple seem beyond their reach. Either they just don't care or they are complete morons. I honestly think the jury is still out on that one.

Somehow I seem to be getting older too, and with age my patience seems to be melting away just as quickly as the years.

Scary how that works isn't it?

I think the fact that I have to be here 13 to 14 hours today probably doesn't help either. Especially given the fact that we finally have a bit of nice weather on the agenda for the week. As I have posted about before, it's been either brutally hot or extremely low air quality all summer. Now that things are starting to get back to normal, I'm going to be stuck in my office all day!

Ain't that some sh....

Well, I guess this is going to be a shorter post than I anticipated this morning. I've got both my phones ringing, about a dozen unread emails, and my internal messaging app going crazy. It's going to be one of those days!

Wish me luck!

Well, it doesn't always help to try to power through all our daily responsibilities. But this can help: Break up the big tasks Into smaller ones and attend to them one at a time. When you start to feel overwhelmed, take a brief break from all the work and get your mind refreshed then come back. You need energy to finish the goals, so conserve energy, eat healthy nourishing meals and get proper night rests. Attend to the most important tasks first. See if there are tasks you can delegate or automate, etc. Also listening to calm refreshing music while working can help take your mind off the mental load. I hope this helps. Good luck with your first day at work.

Thanks! Those are some good tips there!

I totally feel you. The last few months have been really tough for me motivation-wise, and some days I really don't feel like doing anything, or at least the mind wanders off and just wants to engage with stuff other than work.

Wishing you a lot of willpower to still make it through these days!

Thank you! I appreciate that. I think a lot of my problem this morning was that I had so much to tackle I didn't know where to start!

I know that feeling, too. How do go about such situations? For me, writing it all down helps, but then it's still hard to know what to start with...

Oh, I have lists upon lists!

This made me laugh. There's a great British TV series called the IT crowd that is about two IT guys down in a basement and their job is to fix the companies computers. It's in my top 5 comedy shows of all time.
I can imagine this being you hahahha

Some of the things will completely blow your mind!

You will relate to this so . Irish comedian https://youtube.com/shorts/_Ok_3FIEy58?si=QM-N7qw57yYGYhU0

Haha, yeah, that's funny!

Totally feel you—transitioning from peaceful views like that back into the grind is never easy. But don’t be too hard on yourself. Motivation ebbs and flows, and sometimes the most productive thing we can do is give ourselves grace. You’ve got this, and those grand plans will still be waiting when your energy returns. One step at a time!

Thanks! I appreciate it!

I don't get those long holidays, but my other half does. If I'm off work for two weeks I seem to forget stuff. It doesn't help when I need at least 4 passwords just to get started each day.

I could retire in a few years and then I need to find ways to fill the time.

Maybe you will finally take up disc golf!

I have played, but not in a very long time. I would prefer it over regular golf if I could find somewhere to play around here.

Grateful we were able to take leave during shoulder seasons, summer too hot, winters time to repair and do maintenance.

Long hours after any break makes one lose motivation, people 'forgetting' how things work after a break is damned annoying, lazy thinkers possibly.

Cheer up and keep going !BEER

Thank you! I'm doing my best!

Enjoyed your breakaway photography.

Could be worse — you could have been dumb enough to start your own business in a foreign country and so not only have to work 14-16 hours a day, but also weekends, and haven't had a real vacation in 20 years. 😃

But I certainly get you. Even now I seem to have to deal with IT issues somehow, helping employees with forgetting logins and passwords and all that stuff that makes me just slap my face and wonder if they are trolling me.

What! Don't they have "Holiday's" over there where people basically just check out for a whole month? Or is that only Europe? My wife had become the defacto tech person at her building, but honestly it's her own fault. I tell her to just tell them to email me, but she likes the power I think :)

We do. Japan has about a month and a half of public holidays. But you see... those are usually the busiest days for me. Businessmen off work means bored businessmen who come to my school for extra lessons on their free days.

Ah okay, that makes sense! You can sleep when you are dead right?

That feeling that summer is over isn't fun. People are starting to think about pumpkin patches and Halloween 🎃 already.

Yes they are! I think most stores already have their Halloween decorations out too.

Ah, back into the mix! I can image your head will be spinning by the end of this first week. May the force be with you! It's a good thing I'm not in the office environment anymore because my patience for nonsense is nowhere near what it used to be.

Thank you! I am trying so hard to be a kinder gentler Bozz, but then someone says something stupid and it's all out the window!

It is better to wake up and reinvent yourself and direct that chaos energy into something wonderful that will happen to you, we are what we attract. Beautiful photos, I loved them. Enjoy as you did every day.
Greetings and many blessings 🌞🌻🕊️✨

Es mejor al levantarse reinventarte y dirigir esa energía de caos en algo maravilloso que te va a suceder, somos lo que atraemos. Unas bellas fotos me encantaron. Disfruta como lo hicieron cada día.
Saludos y muchas bendiciones 🌞🌻🕊️✨

Thank you! I think I was just in a funk yesterday. Today has seemed to be quite a bit better!

My formula for motivation the past few months has been to drink a cup of coffee, maybe two if I'm moving slow and immediately head to the gym for two hours. Naps may ensue upon return, but I least get something productive done before being drawn into distractions.

Two hours! Ain't nobody got time for that. I'm lucky to fit in the 20 to 25 minutes of workout each morning. Coffee is a non starter for me. Tea on the other hand...

I do enjoy tea in the afternoon/evening - Twinings Irish Breakfast (ironically) or Chai.
Since I effectively retired I've been prioritizing fitness, I'm 52 and trying to turn back the clock at least a few years from a physiological perspective.

I'm on the doorstep of 50, so I hear you there! I'm not retired yet, so maybe in a few years I can dedicate two hours.

For sure hard to get back into work mode after those glorious views over the weekend

Some people our team supported forgot logins etc after a long weekend let alone a summer break lol

That's just unacceptable in my opinion. It makes me feel like they don't really care about their job.

thats how I felt as well but of course had to hold it in and not say what I realy thought to them

I feel you

Monday was brutal.

Hang in there, hopefully working for school district in summer was on a less stressful side. My job is mostly not stressful with some stressful spikes at times...

Yeah, that's pretty much how it goes here too. Most of the time it isn't that bad.

Very beautiful, excellent for enjoying on vacation. The photographs turned out great. Best regards.

Thank you! I appreciate it!

I know that feeling, getting back to the grind can be tough. I'm glad you had a nice weekend getaway, it's always a great way to relax.

As far as those people returning to work and forgetting how to use the system or remember passwords. That's ridiculous. I would say they are moron who just don't care either. A monkey could retain some training longer than that. It just goes to show how motivated they are to actually work. And they are teaching the new generation?

Yeah, not all of them are teachers, so I guess I give them a bit of grace, but it's still your job. What happened if you had a security code to get in the building where you work and you kept forgetting it. They wouldn't keep you around long.

They wouldn't last long at any job with the attitude they seem to have. It's probably sheer laziness sadly...

That feeling when your brain is still in summer mode but reality says nope 😂 I feel the same way starting school today. Good luck powering through the long hours—you got this.

Thank you! I am glad I am not alone!

What is happening to you has nothing to do with age. I feel the same way you do now, a loss of passion for everything. I think that the transitional period from one season to another has something to do with mood swings.

I relate this cause as a freshmen students I don't know but every time I woke up in the morning I don't have energy to get up. Like it ended up I don't have motivation anymore but I need and we need to continue and finish what we started.
