Random interesting photos from Thursday

Cinquefoil

I was out watering my young fruit trees. Before the rain it turns out 🙄 I was bored and looked for interesting photos. First some cinquefoil. I have this in a couple of different places around the yard.

Wood frog

Next a wood frog in one of the garden beds.

Leaf footed bug

I was playing with macro photography and tried a few bugs. This one is a common leaf footed bug.

Spotted water hemlock

This is spotted water hemlock I think but I don't think it is supposed to turn this pretty color. I'm pretty sure there is some spotted water hemlock growing along this creek but not sure if this is the same plant I identified earlier by its blooms. In any case its strikingly beautiful.

Snakeroot

Some more macro photography. Again not too sure on plant ID, maybe snakeroot.

Crab spider

The tiny white crab spider caught my eye on this zinnia.

Daddy Longlegs

A daddy longlefs actually came racing onto this leaf while I was trying to photograph a different bug 😆 so I settled for his picture instead.

In situ

Here's a photo I took for scale on the wood frog. They are larger than the tree frog I photographed a few days ago. This frog is about 1.5 inches. They are sometimes a little bigger than that.

Goldenrod

I never take pictures of golden rod because it is all over the place and not my favorite plant. It spreads aggressively and fills large spaces of my unmanaged swampy areas. However it is a late bloomer and provides a good source of late season nectar for the bees and other pollinators.

Porcupine

One of my most interesting sightings of the day but not one of my better photos. Porcupine faces are hard to capture. The faces are dark and have dark eyes. The color of its quills are great camoflauge against the lichen covered bark of this tree.

Porcupine climbing

This porcupine was busy climbing up a tree when we first saw it. They are good climber and kinda quick if they feel the need to hurry. Not graceful but effective 🙂

Haha, classic timing! 😂🙈 At least the rain came to help water those young fruit trees. And looking for interesting photos is a great way to turn a boring moment into something fun! 🌱📸😊

Thanks. Watering is always a game you play with Mother Nature. If I hadn't watered, it wouldn't have rained 🙄

Fantastic job on today's Ecency leaderboard quest, @steven-patrick! Such lovely snapshots of nature found right in your own backyard.

Thanks to @riyat and Ecency 🙏 🙏

Cool about the porcupine. I've only ever seen one here, though I know they are around.

He was making a lot of racket in the woods. Hard to miss him. I have a video of him climbing the tree but I don't like posting video on Hive. Too much hassle.

I agree re: videos. Plus my connection isn't good on the ancient computer so I seldom watch them.
