Mushrooms from recent hike

Brown mushroom

I took some mushroom photos on our recent hike in central Vermont. The first is just a nice photo not sure what type of mushroom. I'm not great at mushroom identification. I just know a few I like to forage.

Shelf mushroom

A nice shelf mushroom on an old log. The trail was maintained pretty well so all the trees fallen across the trail had a sawed out section to clear path. Many of the cross sections of the downed trees had mushrooms growing on them.

Coral

Here's some nice coral in a shady spot.

Location

The coral was growing on a moss covered log.

Large polypore

This large polypore was one of several on a damaged tree.

Same as above

Here is more of the same from the same location.

Hoof fungus

This is some old hoof fungus on a dying tree.

Conk

I wasn't sure what this one was but I think maybe a conk.

Conk

This close up shows it better.

Nice picture

No interest in these little guys but it is a nice photo.

Oyster?

These misshapen white mushrooms might be oyster. Foragers have found oyster mushrooms in this area.

Same as above

But they don't look like oyster mushrooms I have harvested in the past with an experienced forager.

Cluck cluck

And now the reason for my post 🙂 Some nice chicken of the woods!

Chicken of the woods

One of my favorite mushrooms. Of course I wasn't prepared to forage and it was early in a long hike so I couldn't bring any home. Its an easy mushroom to cook with because its a good substitute for chicken.

You're very welcome, @steven-patrick! 😊

Nice pics of all these mushrooms. Never eat the chicken of the woods.
Have a great day

Thanks. After all this rain there will probably be more mushrooms out there 🙂
