Oh! I have made Belgian beef stew, but probably not with the correct beer. I may have used Stella. I'm not a beer drinker so never paid much attention. I did visit a brewery and it was the first time I ever saw hops growing. The host of the B&B where I stayed collected beer glasses and I learned that often beers had their own special glass that they were served in. A whole culture that I was not aware of.

Yes indeed, the glass is often specific for that (type of) beer. The shape of the glass lets the aromas free, or just the contrary.
Stella is indeed not the best beer for the Belgian beef stew. You should go for something dark and heavy, like Corsendonck, or Chimay.
