Hello, community! I'm writing these lines as a follow-up to a previous post where I told you about my days in the lab and how I used my friendship with the gardeners to get me soil and fertilizer for my plants. At the time, I hadn't highlighted this beautiful orchid I'm bringing you because it was still in its bud. My busy schedule at the university prevented me from noticing, but it was my mother who noticed the buds and was very excited because it was certain some beautiful orchids were going to bloom.

Estoy escribiendo estas líneas como una continuación de un post anterior donde les comentaba de mis días en el laboratorio y como aprovechaba mi amistad con los jardineros para que me consiguieran tierra y abono para mis plantas. En aquel momento no había destacado esta hermosa orquídea que les traigo porque aún estaba en su capullo, la gran cantidad de trabajo que tengo en la Universidad me impidió darme cuenta pero fue mi madre quien notó los capullos y se emocionó mucho porque era seguro que iban a florecer unas bellas orquídeas.
The days passed, and we waited expectantly to see if they would bloom or not. This orchid, as I mentioned before, is the national flower of Venezuela, and being an epiphyte, requires a woody trunk to grow. Naturally, I've seen it grow in cloud forests like the Bello Monte Arboretum, where it has ideal growing conditions, but emulating the ideal conditions for it to grow and bloom in my apartment is a herculean effort! I first had to find a woody surface where it could adhere and then keep it in a place where it wouldn't get too much sunlight and keep it watered at all times.
Los días pasaron y estábamos expectantes esperando si florecerían o no, esta orquídea como había dicho anteriormente, es la flor nacional de Venezuela y al ser una epifita necesitan un tronco leñoso para crecer. Naturalmente la he visto crecer en bosques nublados como el Arboretum de Bello Monte donde tiene las condiciones ideales para crecer, pero en mi apartamento emular las condiciones ideales para que pueda crecer y florecer es un esfuerzo titánico! Tuve primero que conseguir una superficie leñosa donde pudiera adherirse y posteriormente mantenerla en un lugar donde no le incidiera tanta luz solar y mantenerla siempre regada.

Given how difficult it is to maintain this plant and see it bloom, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to share it with you in these last days of April. It was truly a surprise that this orchid bloomed at this time of year. If I have the opportunity to visit the arboretum and see this same flower in its natural state, I'll share it with you. In the meantime, I can only wish you a happy Thursday and a happy future!
Con lo difícil que es lograr mantener esta planta y verla florecer no quise perder la oportunidad de compartirla con ustedes en estos últimos días de abril. Realmente fue una sorpresa que esta orquídea floreciera en estas fechas del año, si tengo la oportunidad de visitar el arboretum y ver esta misma flor en su estado natural se las compartiré, mientras tanto solo me queda desearles feliz jueves y buen destino!
