Last year, as I became more active on Hive, writing more content - I noticed myself turning off distraction more often, and seeking relative quiet during my writing time. This lead me to consider how much YouTube content I was consuming, whether actively or passively. In December I resolved to spend less than two hours a week watching YouTube. I've generally been able to stay under this budget, except in weeks where I have created content that required parsing through a Youtube video.
Curiously the less YouTube I've watched, the less I've wanted to watch. This suggests to me that I had unconsciously formed a habit. Unfortunately I didn't keep track of my consumption earlier. I've know consciously broken a low value habit, an replaced it with increased writing.
How many hours a week do you spend watching YouTube or similar services?
Is it benefitting you?
What would you do if you reclaimed that time or focus?
