Gitumi tuke guku, ni gikeno thiini wa mucii uyu (The reason we came here, is to celebrate the joy in this home): "First line of Firirida song by Dick Munyonyi" In this celebration, I bring culture and happiness, as the community celebrates 5 years of growth and unity. Firirida song, is a celebration song, where, when the soloist sings, tumonie firirida (let's show them a carefree dance) we shake our hips vigourously but rhythmically from left to right.
Unity and growth brings us together as a community. A celebration is not a celebration without food.

In my Kikuyu culture, no celebration is complete without our traditional food specialty, Mukimo. Mukimo is a celebration dish served in weddings, ruracio(dowry negotiations), initiations, and community feasts. The ingredients used in the making are green maize, beans/peas, potatoes, and pumpkin leaves to give it a rich green color.
Mukimo at its root signifies unity and harmony. With its different ingredients coming together to form one dish, same happens when community members contribute to be whole, one.
Looking at @ladiesofhive community, it's a perfect blend of unity and harmony, of people of different backgrounds but one voice, empowerment. Our different backgrounds, different ideas, pieces of advice passed through blogs, the support, different perceptions, are the different ingredients of the Mukimo dish, and when they come together in harmony, they unite to form one community, one voice, one unity.
I might not have been present when the community started but I'm glad to be presesnt in this year's anniversary. As we celebrate 5 years of empowerment, I want to leave a blessing my Mama installed in us that I'm always happy about. "We are one, never be tired to love each other, and always stay in unity with each other and peace will follow." May the same love, unity and peace be with you all.
Happy Anniversary❤️🎉!
Thank you for reading❤️!
