It is another week’s contest for the @ladiesofhive Community, and I am delighted to participate once again. This week’s topic deeply reflects my real-life experiences, especially in my new workplace.
The question for this contest is:
“Some jobs are essential on holidays. Have you ever had to work on holidays?”
My answer is a definite yes.
Working on holidays while others are resting or celebrating is never an easy experience. There are moments when the body longs for rest, and the heart feels a bit envious watching others enjoy the joy and relaxation that holidays bring. However, when duty calls, responsibility, and passion for work make it impossible to walk away. I often have to sacrifice my time, energy, and comfort to ensure that my work is done properly.
I work in the agricultural sector, specifically in the micro-livestock unit of my company. In agriculture, holidays do not pause responsibilities. Animals must be fed, cleaned, and cared for daily, regardless of festive seasons or public holidays.

I am assigned to the rabbitry and grasscutter unit, where I ensure that rabbits and grasscutters are properly fed, their environment is clean, and their health is closely monitored. This routine continues during holidays just as it does on regular workdays. These animals are calm, gentle, and lovable, and caring for them brings me genuine joy. Their peaceful nature gives me a sense of fulfilment each time I am around them.

Generally, jobs in the agricultural sector are demanding, often taking up weekends and holidays. Even beyond holidays, the dry season presents its own challenges. Sourcing fresh grasses to feed the animals during this period is not always easy, yet the work must continue without compromise.

Even before seeing this week’s contest topic, my Christmas work schedule had already been released. Sadly, my job often interferes with my personal plans. One of my biggest wishes this Christmas was to travel for vacation, but unfortunately, Christmas is not my off-day. I have no choice but to work.
Despite the challenges, I truly enjoy what I do. Seeing the animals grow and multiply gives me deep satisfaction. Knowing that my role is essential and meaningful makes every sacrifice worthwhile.
Thanks to @irenenavarroart for this weeks topic, which has helped so many share their life experience.
