Do you like Oreos? They're a favorite snack for many, but these days the market is flooded with imitations. The Oreo is a brand of sandwich cookies created on March 5, 1912 (114 years ago) by the American company Nabisco, a division of Mondelēz International and Kraft Foods. As we know, it consists of two circular black cookies joined by a sweet white cream filling in the center.
The original Oreos were made with a dark chocolate cookie and vanilla cream, although today there are many varieties, all maintaining the basic design and preparation style. It was launched as an imitation of the competing cookie, Hydrox, which was introduced in 1908 and produced by the Sunshine Company. After experiencing market losses to Oreo, Hydrox was discontinued in 1996.

According to Kraft Foods Company, it is considered one of the best-selling cookies in the United States and various parts of the world. The origin of the name Oreo is unknown, but there are many theories, including derivations from the French word 'Or,' meaning gold, or the Greek word 'Oreo,' meaning beautiful, pleasant, or well-made. Others believe the cookie was named Oreo because it was short and easy to pronounce, as you read, Countless theories . In March 2012, Time magazine reported that Oreo cookies were available in more than 100 different countries, with the United States, China, Venezuela, Canada, and Indonesia rounding out the top five in terms of sales. Not all varieties are listed, and not all are available in every country, and believe me, there's a huge variety of Oreo flavors you can't even imagine, and I'm not just talking about one cookie...

Oreos are definitely a staple cookie for many households! I remember a few years ago, our son was shopping at the grocer and came upon a cart a clerk was working on with some Oreos in it. Well, he took a picture of the cart and multiplied the cookie packages (before AI) so well, and sent it to us and his brother and his wife and had us all convinced he'd purchased the entire store's stock! He REALLY liked Oreos, lol! It took some time for all of us to come to the conclusion he was pulling our leg!

Thank you for sharing the history; I didn't know that about them and I also do remember the Hydrox cookies as well.

Take care sis, @monachta, and have a lovely day! 🤗🌹 !LADY !INDEED
