Hello ladies, it's a pleasure to reach this space, which I haven't visited in a long time. Motivated by the theme of contest #260, I wanted to share a little of my experience. But first, I'll leave you the link to the call for entries so other users can access and participate:

The "Book of Books" says that "in the multitude of counselors is wisdom." Contrary to the tacit interpretation we might make of this principle, the real meaning lies in the way each edifying opinion we receive contributes to making us greater in understanding and empowers us to live better. If the advice comes from a woman, as in this case, wisdom is also clothed in sensitivity.
There is an extraverbal way of transmitting and receiving this type of knowledge. Beyond hearing a phrase, there are people who leave their mark on us with their example, and this is an effective and beautiful way to contribute to our spiritual enrichment; it empowers and empowers us.
Today I want to talk to you about María Rosa Puertas, my maternal great-grandmother, a woman extraordinarily gifted at fighting adversity and overcoming life's twists and turns. I never met her; cancer took her long before I was born, but her teachings remained etched in generational memory and family anecdotes.
From those stories, I drew the crazy parallel of constructing Úrsula Iguarán, a key character in García Márquez's great One Hundred Years of Solitude, in the image of her great-grandmother. She had the same profession of leading by example; she was a witty, talkative woman, and what strikes me most about her legacy is the value she always placed on honest work, on doing what was necessary to maintain the harmony and well-being of the family, and on seeking the good of all without seeking any reward.
Like Úrsula, my great-grandmother fed her children with the work of her hands, raised and maintained the order of her house; she didn't make candy animals, but she did do laundry for the street vendors for a few cents, helping her great-grandfather, a cobbler, support his three children, one of whom suffered from cerebral palsy and unfortunately died at 17.
Iguarán and María Rosa knew how to set the tone and carry the weight of the household on their shoulders. "My pigs don't die in my belly," she used to say, assuring them that her spirit was enough to conquer any dream through sheer willpower. That is the best and greatest piece of advice I've received from her.
Perhaps for that reason, in addition to genetics, I'm not one of those women who are intimidated by difficulties, and I do whatever it takes to ensure my family survives. Thanks to such advice, I can now accept being a simple store clerk despite my college degree and talents, precisely because it's time to do what's necessary with all the dignity my great-grandmother did in her day. Although it's not my dream job, my children and parents have food and other needs covered, it's gratifying.
I am deeply grateful for the advice of effort, honesty, and dedication to the good of others that was your life, for the example you preached that reaches me through your story and also allows me to find it in the pages of my favorite novel. From there, I also receive that kind of wisdom that is a wonderful treasure.

Dice el "Libro de libros" que "en la multitud de consejeros está la sabiduría*. Contrario a la lectura tácita que podemos hacer de este principio, el real significado yace en la manera en que cada opinión edificante que recibimos contribuye a hacernos grandes en entendimiento y capacita para un mejor vivir. Si el consejo viene de una mujer, como en el caso que nos ocupa, la sabiduría entonces se viste también de sensibilidad.
Existe una manera extraverbal de transmitir y recibir este tipo de saber. Más allá de escuchar una frase, hay personas que nos marcan con su ejemplo y ello es una manera efectiva y hermosa en contribuir a nuestro enriquecimiento espiritual, capacita y dispone.
Hoy quiero hablarles de María Rosa Puertas, mi bisabuela materna, una mujer extraordinariamente dotada para luchar contra la adversidad e imponerse a las tretas de la vida. No la conocí, el cáncer se la llevó mucho antes de nacer yo, pero sus enseñanzas quedaron cifradas en la memoria generacional y en el anecdotario familiar.
De esas historias saqué el loco paralelismo de construir a Úrsula Iguarán, personaje columna de la gran Cien años de soledad, de García Márquez, a semejanza de la bisabuela.
Ella tenía la misma profesión de predicar con el ejemplo; era ocurrente dicharachera y lo que más me impacta de su legado es en cuanto al valor que siempre dió al trabajo honesto, de hacer lo necesario para mantener la armonía y el bienestar de la familia, procurar el bien para con todos sin buscar retribución alguna.
Como Úrsula, mi bisabuela dio de comer a sus hijos con el trabajo de sus manos, levantó y mantuvo el orden de su casa; no hizo animalitos de caramelo pero sí lavó para la calle por unos centavos y con ello ayudó al bisabuelo, zapatero remendón, a mantener a sus tres hijos, uno de ellos afectado con una parálisis cerebral que desafortunadamente murió a los 17 años.
La Iguarán y María Rosa sabían establecer las pautas y cargar sobre sus hombros el peso del hogar. — A mí no se me mueren los cerdos en la barriga— solía decir asegurando que su temple alcanzaba para conquistar cualquier quimera a base de voluntad.
Ese es el mejor y más grande consejo que me ha llegado de ella quizás por esa razón, además del factor genético, no soy de las mujeres que se amilanan ante las dificultades y hago lo que sea necesario para que mi familia sobreviva.
Gracias a tal consejo, en estos momentos puedo asumir ser una simple vendedora de tienda a pesar de mi título universitario y mis talentos, precisamente porque es tiempo de hacer lo necesario con toda la dignidad como lo hizo la bisabuela en sus días. Aunque no es el trabajo soñado mis hijos y padres tienen comida y otras necesidades cubiertas ello es gratificante.
Agradezco mucho el consejo del esfuerzo, la honestidad y entrega por el bien de los otros que fue su vida, la predicación de su ejemplo que me llega con la historia y me hace también encontrarla en las páginas de mi novela favorita. Desde ahí me llega también esa clase de sabiduría que es un tesoro maravilloso.
