Childhood was fun and life was simple. All I had to do was believe every story my elders told me because ignorance they say is bliss. Here are some things I swallowed hook, line and sinker as a child living in the South southern part of Nigeria which made me cringe now:
- Satan is on the 'ground'.
I couldn't pick my edibles whenever it fell because I was told that Satan had already kissed it with his black lips.funny right?
- A touch could impregnate.
Ah, I was made to believe that a single touch from the opposite sex can impregnate me.
3 Adulthood is fun.
I grew up thinking that adulthood was all fun and games and a right to eat extra meat. But I have now realized that adulthood isn't a bed of roses.
It's filled with ups and downs.
4 I used to believe that people live inside television, and they're actually seeing me.
But on the other hand, I used to wonder how they got inside the TV screen.
5 Swallowing a seed would make a tree sprout in your stomach.
6 The Nigeria vs India Football Match.
They told us that our goalkeeper couldn't catch the ball because it kept changing from the face of a lion to a mighty ball of fire, therefore, the Indians won us with 99 goals to 1 goal.
Another story I believed was that, if you ever laugh at someone with disability, you'll give birth to a child with the same disability.
Well, I grew up to understand that, this was said in order to instill that spirit of empathy in me.
There are like a thousand and one silly stories I believed as child.
I could go on and on😆
Many of these stories were passed down to teach caution or good behavior, even though they aren't literally true.
