Lately, one of my favorite things to do is taking online courses. I really enjoy learning new things, so I often take courses on topics that catch my interest. What’s interesting is that as I started taking these courses, I realized I was learning more about things I already knew in some way but hadn’t fully understood or studied before. It felt like I was finally putting the pieces together and giving names to things I had already been doing or experiencing.
These courses have helped me deepen my knowledge and become more confident in what I already knew. It's like I had the passion and basic understanding, but now I’m gaining the proper tools, language, and information to back it all up. Learning this way has been exciting and encouraging, it shows me that I’ve been on the right path all along, and now I’m just growing stronger in it.
When I had my first child, I made the decision not to send her to a crèche or pre-nursery school. Instead, I chose to homeschool her. At the time, I had experience as an early childhood tutor, so I relied on what I knew from my teaching background and used some educational materials and basic curriculum to guide me.
Even though I did my best, I hadn’t taken any formal courses in early childhood education back then. I was mostly teaching from my personal experience and what I thought would work. Looking back, I realize I was passionate about teaching young children, but I didn’t have the deeper knowledge and training I needed to give her the best.
Now that I’m homeschooling my younger children who are in the preschool stage, things are quite different. I’ve been taking online courses in early childhood education, and I’ve learned so much things I didn’t know before, even with my previous experience. These courses have opened my eyes to better teaching methods, child development strategies, and more intentional ways to help my kids grow and learn.
As I apply what I’m learning, I’ve started to see amazing results. My preschoolers are learning faster, staying more engaged, and enjoying the process a lot more. I also feel more confident and equipped as their teacher. Comparing it to when I first started with my eldest child, I can clearly see the difference that proper training and continuous learning can make. It’s been a beautiful journey of growth for both me and my children.
Taking these courses has truly improved how I teach and interact with my children, and it has deepened my love for educating little ones.
