We create the balance ourselves / El equilibrio lo creamos nosotros mismos / contest #281 (eng-esp)

Greetings, my friends.

This debate about whether working from home is better, the same, or worse than working from an office is quite long-standing, @jane1289. At least, it is in my family. When my mother found out I was going to quit my job, the one I studied for almost 10 years to get, she nearly had a heart attack.

She didn't understand that, for my mental health, I couldn't continue working in my office.

That way, I couldn't balance my personal and professional life. And that's not even counting my writing. Contrary to what she thought, it was easier for me to do it if I worked from home.

My mother didn't understand that work-life balance isn't about where you work. It's about how you organize your activities.

I work from home, yes, but I know people in the same situation who end up working fourteen hours a day because they don't know how to set boundaries.

The office consumes their home life.

They answer emails at ten o'clock at night. They don't separate work time from personal time. In the end, they're at home, but absent.

I also know people who work in offices and have achieved a perfect balance. They leave on time. They leave work at work. They get home and are truly available for their families. They don't live glued to their phones or carrying around stress.

The difference isn't in the walls that surround you during the day. It's in how you manage your time, what priorities you set, and your ability to say "enough is enough."

Balance isn't given to you by a company policy or a work model. You give it to yourself. With organization. With concrete decisions. With the discipline to separate work from personal life, wherever you go.

I think that sometimes we look for a solution in external conditions that can only come from within ourselves.
