MOVIE REVIEW

Written and produced by Stephen Paul and directed by James Bamford, this 2024 action thriller “Air Force One Down” sort of reminds me of Harrison Ford’s 1997 action film of almost same name.

I love the many lessons packed in here amidst the tensed mood created by the sound score in a mix of action and drama. I appreciated the back story between Allison and her cherished relative, Uncle Sam.

Although the cinematography, lighting, audio, casting was good, the storyline and plot however seemed a little too straightforward for a film that had more potentials to have had a better twist to it.

I get it that if it was too complicated, then critics would still complain. True. The thing however is there were many premises in this film that would have made for a more mind blowing experience.

They however chose to focus more on the lead actress taking down enemies single-handedly leaving us with many loopholes in the fight scenes that calls for some eye roll.

  1. How was it so easy to infiltrate a President’s security system? ust how porous can the team be? Well, your guess is as good as mine though they managed to explain this later on. The acting in that aspect was nonetheless far from believable.

  2. The way Allison raised the hands of one of the bad guys with a gun so as to disarm him before taking him down was just so laughable.

  3. She ran on a rooftop with people visibly at the bottom…no one saw her. Then she gets to the bottom, and someone was waiting for her! C’omon!

There were many times she could have been kïlled but the plot and direction clearly was leading to a story that preserves the lead character - so yeah, she’s immortal.

Even when they tried to create a twist, it turned out to be one that didn’t have as much wow-effect as one would have loved cause there were already handwritings on the wall.

What happened to our Madam Vice President? She only seemed to have appeared in about 3 - 4 scenes and that was it!!! Were they trying to cut down costs?

I had a few giggling moments here and there but seriously what kind of a secret service agent falls asleep in the middle of nowhere and how was she able to fight that well with her hair coming down her face the whole time?

Be that as it may, this was nevertheless a beautiful watch! Just don’t expect too much. I guess my eyes for details makes me see these things. But hey enjoy the ride here!

I appreciate the fact that unlike many other plane-hijacking movies, they did not spend much time in the air. The attackers knew what they wanted and execution was pretty much rapid. The movie also highlighted the fact that people tend to judge people from afar until they get to know them up close and realise that they aren’t as bad!

Least I forget, there was a lovely onscreen chemistry between the two lead actors. Loved it!
That said, I'll rate this a 7.

I hope that this was interesting to read. Thanks for coming around.
