Soulful Oldies - TTT

in Music3 months ago

Happy Tuesday. I warmly welcome you to this week's threetunetuesday, initiated by @ablaze. Sit back and enjoy the lovely old school tunes I'd be sharing with you. 🥰.
How I love old jamz. They hit differently, hehehe.

While I was checking out a friend's WhatsApp status this morning, the video of this 1995 oldie song - "Ocean Drive" by Lighthouse Family suddenly popped up.

The song's opening notes felt like a warm hug, bringing back good ole memories. I must admit that the intro of this song is hauntingly beautiful and mesmerizing, such that I couldn't help but shout "My oh my! 😂.

So this week's tunes will be from the British musical duo, "Lighthouse Family".

A little bit about Lighthouse Family

The duo consists of the vocalist, Tunde Baiyewu, a Nigerian, and Paul Tucker (songwriter and keyboardist). They met while studying in the university and working at the same bar. From there they formed the Lighthouse Family in 1993 in Newcastle, Tyne, England.

One notable thing about this British musical duo is that their music style is often a blend of Pop, Soul, R&B, and easy listening.

For record purposes, Lighthouse Family has sold over 15 million albums worldwide, making them one of the successful duos in the music industry. Amazing!. Also they released many hit songs, popular amongst them is "Ocean Drive".

And this bring us to the First tune of the day;

"Ocean Drive" by Lighthouse Family.

"Ocean Drive", written by Paul Tucker and produced by Mike Peden was released as the second single from their debut album on October 2nd, 1995.

Back to my friend's WhatsApp status.

As the song began to play, the soothing strings and gentle piano melody set a wistful tone, evoking a feeling of nostalgia. It's been a long time since I listened to the song and I felt like I was rediscovering the song all over again. Instantly, I recalled that this song, "Ocean Drive" was featured in Rothmans King Size TV commercial.

Thankfully, he shared the full video of the song and I listened - or rather watched, without batting an eyelid, completely absorbing myself in the melody. I felt grateful that he shared it because it really made my morning, and day too.

I had to download the song and added it as favorite in my Playlist. I need to enjoy the feeling of driving along the ocean way always, even though I'm nowhere close to an ocean. 😅

Tune 2

"High" - Lighthouse Family -

"High" is another popular, soulful vibe from the British duo, which was featured on their second album "Postcards from Heaven", released on December 29th, 1997.

"High" was a popular choice for various brands and advertisements due to its uplifting and catchy melody. I can recall that St Moritz featured "High" in one of their adverts. Skye Bank also featured it but had the lyrics modified.

The song's message is uplifting and reassuring, touching on the themes of hope, love and resilience. These virtues are portrayed as essential for navigating life's challenges and finding strength in relationships.

The part of the song that I love so much is;

When you're close to tears remember
Someday it'll all be over
One day we're gonna get so high...

Excerpt

This lyrics is a poignant reminder that no condition is permanent and that one day, you'll get a breath of fresh air from life's struggles.

Tune 3

"Lifted" - Lighthouse Family.

"Lifted" is another hit track from the duo. It was released in 1995 as part of debut album "Ocean Drive". The song features soulful vocals, a catchy melody.

The song inspirational and uplifting lyrics that conveys a sense of hope and positivity.
The lyrics, catchy melody, soulful and soaring vocals, all blend together to give the song a unique vibe.

I really want to be lifted from the shadows so that I can soar high while on the ocean drive!😅

Thank you for visiting. I hope you enjoyed the tunes.

These are really oldie. I really liked ocean drive because I recall that back in the day it was the sound track of a popular cigarette advert and this line "the sun's gonna shine on everything you do" was always in my head😂

You're right. It was always ringing a bell. 😅
Thanks for coming around

I grew listening to "High" as a toddler in the early 2000s. Although we dismissed "High" as a bad song because saint Moritz, that popular cigarette brand started using it advertise their products.

High was my favorite. The other white guy that was part of the group didn't sing as much, it was this Nigerian guy that was the main singer.

I think it was that St Moritz advert that actually made "High" to come to limelight here in Nigeria. That advert was a bang!

Tucker, he wrote all the songs and plays guitar and keyboard, while Tunde sings. Theirs was a good collaboration that made them rank as one of the successful duo in the music world, something we no longer see these days.

I grew up in a Christian family, so it was weird lol. However Star FM and the other old radio stations made the song popular especially when they advertised that cigarette.
I imagine how such a decent song ended up with a such a thing as cigarette

I wish I can be young again, back then was so beautiful.

You're right. The advert was aired in so many radio stations across the country. Even BBC radio was always playing the song early in the morning.

Well, I'm guessing it's because the song fitted their campaign as it captures that feeling of being on top of the world smokers get after smoking. The lyrics might have resonated with their brand vibe.

I wish I can be young again, back then was so beautiful.

Hmmm, I guess we have same wish. 😅 Life was much easier and enjoyable then. Maybe because we had no bills to pay 😅.
