Match Number - Colombia 1-0 Uruguay
In an increasingly tense and ill-tempered match Colombia held on to the lead they took with a 39th minute Lerma goal, despite losing Muñoz to a red card at the end of the first half.
Luis Suarez was denied an equalising goal by the post, and despite the possession and pressure, the 15 time champions were unable to break down Colombia.
At the end of the game some blows were exchanged between Uruaguay players and Colombia fans in what is a shocking lack of stewardship by the host stadium. Colombian fans taunting the family and friends Uruguayan players was an ugly thing, that stewards and police were unable to calm things down before players arrived to take action of their own is an indictment of all involved and there will need to be a serious inquest to ensure similar scenes are not repeated in the two games remaining, nor in any World Cup games in two years.
Uruguay will seek to lick their wounds by securing third spot against Canada.
Colombia go on to play the last team to beat them twenty-nine games ago.
