You see, when people talk about innovation the first thing that comes to mind for many people is cars, phones, electricity or even internet. But for me, If you ask me to pick my own favourite invention, I will not even waste time to pick cause it's the bra, Yes, the one women do wear.
You see, as simple as it may look , that thing is like a lifesaver, It might not be spoken about as much as it should be o, but I do honestly think the bra deserves more recognition than it actually gets. It is not just something that women wear to “look put together” It is more deeper than that you know It is about comfort, support, and confidence ,especially for women who have breastfed children and now deal with sagging breast, it might sound funny to you, but I know what I am saying.
A lot of women, especially the mothers, do struggle with how their bodies change after childbirth, And let us not lie o, sagging breasts can affect ones self-esteem, Some women no longer feel attractive or confident because of it, But the moment they wear a good, well-fitted bra, you willl see how they stand differently, smile differently, even walk with more pride. That boost is something small but also powerful.
There are now so many different types now push-up bras, sports bras, strapless, nursing bras, wireless ones , etc, They all serve different purposes, and that just shows how innovation has evolved to meet women where they are , Whether you want comfort, lift, or style, there is a bra for that ,This wasn’t always the case, but today we can walk into any market or open any app and see so many options to chose from.
Personally, I admire how the bra supports and shapes a woman’s body without judgment , It does not ask if you are young or older, slim or chubby, whether you have breastfed or not , it just does it's job and that's what i love.
So now, if I am to choose a second favourite invention, I will say the airplane , though I have never been on one yet, but I still appreciate what it means ,The fact that you can leave Lagos and be in another country within hours still blows my mind, No more spending weeks on the road or water like they used to back in the day, That alone is something worth celebrating on.
I have seen people that complain about their flights being delayed or uncomfortable , but me I am just like, abegi, let me first experience it eh..... Even the idea that I can sit in something flying in the sky and reach my destination safely is wild alone. I keep saying one day, I must enter plane ,even if it is just to Ghana. Hehehe.....
What is so amazing about the airplane innovation is how it connects the world, People can attend weddings, conferences, reunions, and even school abroad all because planes exist , The world is literally smaller because of this airplane. You can dream bigger, make plans that go beyond borders, and just live fully. Even though I have e not had the chance to fly yet, I am glad that it is an still option.
Now, if I could create my own innovation, hmm….. I think I would invent something that helps people do small small house chores without getting tired or feeling overwhelmed , Like, imagine something you can attach to your body, maybe a soft band or even a necklace, and once you wear it, it just helps boost your energy and makes housework faster. Something that can help with sweeping, laundry, or even arranging your space without leaving you drained. Because let’s face it chores and they are hard. And we cannot afford a robot yet like in foreign countries. So a wearable helper? Ehn.... If it is even possible lol.. see me thinking wild.
So in the end , I just believe innovation is really about meeting real needs. It doesn’t always have to be shiny or complicated somehow, Sometimes it is the small things like a bra that quietly change peoples lives every day, Or it could be something as big as an airplane that opens up the whole world to you.
I am just really grateful for both. For the one that gives women confidence and comfort, and for the one that takes you places literally.
And that’s why, when I think of innovation, these two stand out for me. They might seem unrelated, but they both make life better in their own way. And isn’t that what innovation is all about?yeah....?
