Have you ever neglected even the littlest chores or responsibility just for pleasure???
Well I do, sometimes. To be honest........ quite a lot.
Some nights ago, I was hand- picking beans in preparation for lunch the day after. Having poured out the beans into a tray, I could see just how much debris were in it which instantly made me angry. The kitchen was the last place I wanted to be at that time, not when I had an action-packed kdrama series waiting to be continued, lol. But I didn't have a choice so I grumpily continued sorting the beans.
However, on a closer look, I noticed there were a good number of chaffs on it, maybe even more than the beans itself and that was when a silly idea came to my mind. Since winnowing always ends up with me tossing away the beans rather than the unwanted items, I embraced this new idea with my full chest.
I got a bowl and filled it with water then dipped my hands inside and grabbed a handful of beans. I tossed the beans from one hand to the other and viola... all the chaffs glued to my hand. You would have seen the smile that made its way to my face. I did this a few more times and I was done with the whole beans. I ran back to my room, and my phone with the speed of light.
The day after, I prepared the beans and dished it out. On taking the third spoonful, I was graced with a crunch. My face instantly curled up into a scowl. It was just a tiny stone but enough to make me lose my appetite and I pushed the plate aside. The rest of my family who ate the meal complained about the little stones they all happened to bite. My act of pleasure over prudence affected not just me but those around me.
We humans tend to prioritise entertainment and comfort most of the time. Anything that screams stress-free, we often go for it. After all, we only live once right??? But at the same time, it would be great to consider the pros and cons before going ahead. If having fun at that particular moment would come back to bite one in the ass then I see no reason to go ahead with it.
It's even worse when the aftermath of it extends to our close ones, who know nothing about it. And this little experience of mine just taught me that. So instead of embracing pleasure that leads to repercussions, I would rather go through that hectic process and relax afterwards.
