I went to pick up an order at a shop today and while I was there, I realized the shop attendant looked really tired. She was even making mistakes while attending to people and kept apologizing.
Another woman entered the shop and with the way the attendant became alert, I guessed she was the owner and I was right. She owned the place and was just passing by to see if everything was going well. Although the attendant was already making mistakes, upon seeing the woman, it became worse and I just stood there looking at her try to correct his mistakes.
The lady realized what was going on and then fixed the issue. She then asked why she was being like that and she said she was very tired. According to her reply, she couldn’t get enough sleep last night. I watched the woman talk to the lady so politely for about a minute and then told her to close down the shop and take the day off to rest after attending to me.
I saw the attendant give off probably the most beautiful and wide smile I’ve ever seen in a while. I kept thinking of what happened and why she couldn’t get enough sleep last night. Whatever it was, it was obvious that the boss knew about it because she didn’t think twice before telling her to close down the shop. Okay, enough of me making up stories in my head.
I watched on in amazement. Amazement is an understatement, actually. I haven’t seen such a thing before. A shop owner close her shop because her attendant didn’t get enough sleep? That’s news to me. But on the other side, I felt my heart become warm and I couldn’t stop smiling.
I kept praising her in my mind for the standard of humanity and care she showed. To be honest, I felt scared for the attendant seeing the mistakes she was making with people’s orders, especially after her boss entered because trust me, I’ve seen people do worse to people who work for them. But I’m happy everything worked well for her good.
Situations like these remind me of how I always talk about being there for each other as humans because we are all we have. And I don’t think I’ll ever stop talking about it. Let’s not forget that it costs nothing to treat people right. It takes nothing from us to be kind to the people around us. And most importantly, we need to always keep in mind that being ahead of people in any aspect of life doesn’t make them less human.
