En el departamento donde vivo alquilada, no hay muebles aéreos en la cocina, y la administradora tiene prohibido abrir huecos en las paredes, por lo que se hace necesario comprar un mueble para tener tanto la comida como la vajilla, y la verdad, es que como no quiero tener una vitrina (como las que usaban las abuelas) me inventé una alacena portátil, sin necesidad de muchos materiales.
Encontré unas cajas plásticas que usaba mi compañera que vende verduras, en el basurero, pues ella no las iba a usar, y decidí llevarlas a casa para usarlas como organizador de la ropa dentro del closet. Solo que luego se me ocurrió realizar este estante improvisado, que realmente me pareció mucho más útil.
Tomé un rollo de pabilo que me quedó de cuando hice hallacas y con la ayuda de un palito de altura, comencé a hacer la unión de las cajas, usando el punto ojal que se hace en el bordado, de manera que quedaran fijados sin peligros de que se movieran hacia los lados. Apliqué la misma técnica tanto en la parte frontal como la posterior.
En el caso de la cesta que sirve como base, que es de otro tipo, solo pasé el hilo en medio de la cesta negra, para unirla a las verdes, ya que no tienen la misma trama, y se dificultaba aplicar la misma técnica.
Al final, logré una alacena portable que tengo en el extremo de la mesa del comedor que no se usa, y que me permite tener todo en orden sin ocupar espacios de más.
El siguiente paso será tomar un pedazo de tela para hacerle una cortina que tape todo lo que está en el interior, de manera que quede prolijo y resguardado todo.
Lo mejor fue que ya no tuve que colocar las cosas en distintos puntos de la cocina y que saqué toda la vajilla del gabinete del fregadero, pues era complicado poder mantenerlo en orden en un espacio tan reducido. Así ya lo tengo dispuesto para servir, y no tengo el temor de que se me vayan a caer los platos al momento de poner la mesa.
Ahora ando esperando que la compañera vaya descartando estas cajas, pues son muy prácticas para mantener el orden en espacios reducidos como los que tengo en casa.

To be honest, as I didn’t want a traditional display cabinet (like the ones our grandmothers used), I came up with a portable cupboard that didn’t require many materials.
I found some plastic boxes that my neighbour, who sells vegetables, had thrown away, as she wasn’t going to use them, and I decided to take them home to use as a clothes organiser in the wardrobe. But then I had the idea of making this makeshift shelf, which I actually found much more useful.
I took a roll of wick that I had left over from when I made hallacas and, with the help of a long stick, began to join the boxes together, using the eyelet stitch used in embroidery, so that they would be secured without any risk of them shifting sideways. I applied the same technique to both the front and the back.
In the case of the basket that serves as the base, which is of a different type, I simply threaded the string through the centre of the black basket to join it to the green ones, as they do not have the same weave, making it difficult to use the same technique.
In the end, I created a portable cupboard that I keep at the end of the dining table that isn’t used, allowing me to keep everything tidy without taking up extra space.
The next step will be to take a piece of fabric to make a curtain that covers everything inside, so that everything looks tidy and is kept safe.
The best thing was that I no longer had to leave things scattered around the kitchen and that I was able to take all the crockery out of the cupboard under the sink, as it was difficult to keep it tidy in such a small space. Now it’s all set up and ready to serve, and I don’t have to worry about the plates falling over when I’m setting the table.
I’m now waiting for my partner to get rid of these boxes, as they’re very handy for keeping things tidy in small spaces like the ones I have at home.
