We arrived in Chile a week before winter began, but it was already cold. We arrived when the temperature was 7 degrees, and although it has been harsh, we have been lucky that this winter has not been as rough as previous ones.
Today I want to tell you about the different ways they keep warm in my daughter's house and her mother-in-law's house.
My daughter's mother-in-law's house uses a wood-burning stove called a salamandra, which burns small pieces of wood, mostly eucalyptus, because it lights faster and this type of salamandra is the cheapest, but also the most polluting. In fact, there is already an ordinance here in Chile that prohibits them, but people continue to use them because they can also be used to heat water in a kettle for tea and coffee.

Hoy les quiero contar las distintas maneras que usan para mantenerse caliente en la casa de mi hija y casa de su suegra.
Casa de la suegra de mi hija usan una calefacción de leña que se llama salamandra para la cual usan pedazos de madera pequeños que la mayoría de las veces son de eucalipto por que prende más rápido y este tipo de salamandra es la más económica, pero también la más contaminante, de echo ya hay una ordenanza aquí en Chile que las prohíbe pero la gente no deja de usarlas porque ahí también pueden calentar agua en la tetera para tomar el té y el café.

Aquí en casa para el área en común donde nos reunimos todos mi yerno compro una de parafina 2 semanas después que llegamos y mi esposo @manros11 ya se volvió un experto haciéndole mantenimiento, con esta estufa hasta nuestra mascota Candy se siente calientita.
Here at home, we use an electric heater for the bedroom, which we turn on for 10 minutes to heat the room and then turn it off.
It has two buttons on the back that you press to blow hot air, and when you remove the buttons, it blows cold air, which is ideal for summer.
Aquí en casa para la habitación usamos una eléctrica que prendemos por 10 minutos para que caliente la habitación y después la apagamos.
Por detrás tiene 2 botones que se hunden para que bote aire caliente y cuando se sacan los botones echa aire frío ideal para el verano.
My best ally is the hot water bottle, or bolsa de agua caliente as we call it in Venezuela. It's the best thing there is for warming up your body and your bed so you can sleep soundly.
Pero mi mejor aliado es el guatero o bolsa de agua caliente como le decimos en Venezuela, es lo mejor que hay para calentar el cuerpo y la cama y uno dormir sabroso.
I'll tell you that 11 years ago, when I came to Chile, winter hadn't really started yet because it was the end of May, but it was so cold that one night I almost got hypothermia because someone left the bathroom window open and we didn't notice, and since then I've become very sensitive to the cold.

Les cuento que hace 11 años cuando vine a Chile el invierno como tal no había comenzado porque era finales de mayo pero hacia tanto frío que una noche casi me dio hipotermia porque alguien dejo la ventana del baño abierta y no nos dimos cuenta y desde entonces me e vuelto muy sensible al frío.
