Why did the dinosaur chicken cross the road?

Well these aren't exactly chickens.

An open prairie path gave us the opportunity to see some giant dinosaurs crossing the road.

The sandhill cranes had a baby and were being extra protective of it.

They wanted to cross the path to get to these other cranes deep in the prairies.

The father was quite defensive and kind of approached us with a low croaking noise.

Quite an intimidating looking figure. I'll peck your eyes out human if you get too close!

Eventually the mom rounded up the baby who was making a strange clucking noise and they crossed safely.

Now it is off to look for frogs, rodents and red wing blackbird chicks to eat in the prairie grass.

The baby was quite close to us and didn't seem to care that we were there.

Later on we scared a couple of other cranes in a side path. They croaked loudly to warn any other cranes in the area that there were humans pushing a baby stroller.

Poor thing had a fly stuck to his head the whole time and no way to get rid of it.

These are probably the things these cranes are eating the most, tiny little wood frogs.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Wow, lovely shots! We do have cranes here also (although a different species), only during the winter and only in specific parts of the country; I always try to go and see them, they're amazing!

Thanks, its amazing how loud these things are, most other cranes I've seen aren't as loud.

The ones visiting here are loud as hell too! :)

Great pictures. I bet it takes alot of little frogs to feed one of those giants 🙂

Yeah probably millions of them, I'm sure they are eating the tadpoles too. I've seen them eating various rodents as well. Anything is fair game for them in the prairie grasses below.

This bird looks dangerous with those claws. Majestic and wonderful.

The sharp beak worries me more, but their loud noise scares anything away before they have to resort to the beak weapon.

Your cock is very unique, I want to have it.

Haha X-)
