The snowy owl is a native of the Arctic Far North. Unlike many other types of owls, this one is active during the day, and it is one of the largest of the species. This one was on the ground at the Calgary Zoo in an area where you can walk right up to them. I was a little more cautious as I didn't want to get too close, so I used my zoom, and it seemed pretty calm and content just sitting and observing me and the others that walked by.
