A member of the Corvidae family, the magpie is one of the more intelligent birds around. It is also one of the few nonmammalian species to recognize itself in a mirror. They are capable of using tools, playing games, and working in teams. I find they are one of the most likely birds that I will encounter anywhere I go in Calgary, as they are probably in every neighborhood and every park. It seems they really thrive in these urban settings.
