It's All Right In Black And White

How often black birds are so difficult to capture, have some fun turn it on with monochrome photography it might surprise you as to the detail captured.

Drongo a feisty bird more often than not clearing the air of insects on wing sit in dappled shade making them extremely difficult to obtain detail, black and white more often than not has surprised me!

White-eared barbet a distinctive dark brown and white barbet, always recognizable by the white stripe behind the eye, they look more black than brown to be honest! Another noisy character found in the woodlands along the coastal belt, love wild figs, foraging tree canopies, also enjoys insects. Only seen from Amanzimtoti KwaZulu-Natal along the coast up into Mozambique.

Woolly-necked stork gorgeous large bird in all black except for woolly white neck and lower belly, so whether catching thermals above or on the ground normally close to water, great sighting for black and white photographers in contrast.

Sharing washed down tree/log on river bank a group enjoying time together. Look like undertakers all congregating together for a late afternoon meeting!

Egyptial goose not so much a goose, a shelduck, cross between duck and goose. Not tasty to eat, left to enjoy life without many turning anything more than a camera onto these colourful guys and gals.

Dark-capped bulbul** more greyish brown, cream below and cute little yellow patch around the vent. Another bird that behaves during photography sessions, will chat to you if you answer back...., yup a talkative little bird!

Birds currently around the garden an opportunity to share in black and white from under the South African sun, mid-summer days are not a time to do enjoy birding, it's early morning or late afternoon, most siesta or hide at midday.

Stunning photographs. I really like how the Black and White effect totally changes the mood from happy birds to a rather intense moment. Thank you so much for sharing! We have such beautiful wildlife in South Africa.

Birds predominantly black feathered most definitely more detail captured using black and white photography, normally battle to capture decent pics of them.

For sure. I struggled with the drongo birds in the Kruger. The photographs are always under-exposed. I need to try the B&W trick!

Extreme sunlight, dappled shade, where birds normally sit during the heat, always difficult photographing black birds for some reason.

Black birds always look like shadows in my photographs. Only rare opportunities when the sun falls on them perfectly for a beautiful photograph.

Good afternoon dear friend @joanstewart
I admire the enormous amount of birds that are there and you have the opportunity to take a beautiful shot of them.
As always, the collection of images that are shown are great. Beautiful shots, appreciate you sharing with us.
have a happy start to the week

We do enjoy a great variety of birds visiting throughout the year, keeps life interesting.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day.

Oh this is beautiful. I never had the chance to be close enough of a bird, oh but if I do, you'll hear from me!

Bird feeder close to the home should attract them in, hope you have the opportunity soon to enjoy them from a window.

Have fun setting it up so many ideas on what to do in your region.

Well.. Not luck yet. I guess it would be a good idea becoming in a bird watcher.

Going out regularly helps, you learn where their meeting spots or feeding places are. Good luck!
