Angel On Wings

Great White Egret

When we were growing up we had Chappies bubble gum wrapper to teach us the "Did You Know", how much fun our young enjoyed reading out the wrappers, our encyclopaedia prior to Google.

Now on with the bird in question, did you know it is seen everywhere except Antarctica? Here in Africa will be seen across most of South Africa except in drier regions, they love water!

Watering holes is where food is sought, fish, insects, amphibians, reptiles, small mammals with smaller birds on the menu. Water may be rivers, lakes, flooded grasslands or estuaries all in close proximity to where I captured this white angel.

IMG_2523.JPG

Having witnessed them in different places throughout our province, nesting in colonies of up to 200, both male and female have the same plumage so never able to distinguish at a glance. On seeing nests in tree tops believe me it's not a pretty sight, messy to say the least, up to 5 babies at a time also gorgeous with exotic display in feathers.

Flying on wingspan as great as 1.7 metres (5.77 foot), standing tall around 1 metre a majestic bird to see in the wild.

Missing being out in the bushveld this is my entry with a little walk down memory lane in bubble gum wrappers with "did you know", gleaning knowledge the old fashioned way, 2 Chappies for 1 cent buying a loaf of bread with 10 cent piece. White angels, Egretta alba in flight or pummeling water, are gracious large birds in the skies.

This series of photography was taken within iSimangaliso Wetland Park during a visit in 2021, when all had come out of strict lockdowns escaping to the outdoors, on-route home riots had started breaking out in the province, we timed it right!

Good afternoon lady @joanstewart
I'm glad you visited the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park and had the opportunity to photograph this very bird
Beautiful photographs

This region is stunning for all types of wildlife, it was a memorable trip up as it always is.

A very beautiful bird indeed!

Thanks for visiting and leaving comment.

The bird is aware of the camera so it tries to pose as best as possible to look dashing on your camera screen. The appearance of the flowers is also no less beautiful.

His/Her pond was a lovely remote spot, I felt like a gatecrasher entering this world of beauty.

They're beautiful. We see the smaller version here often, but that species is also an occasional visitor!

Often have both small and large visiting together, they stand out against the African veld in stunning white.

That's even better, best way to tell them apart!

Little egret has "golden feet" they another lovely bird to see.

One of the best way to tell them apart from other egrets!

Got given a few wonderful poses before off to feed once again. Thanks for support @brumest and @qurator

Amazing birds, especially when you catch them midflight! I am glad that not only I think that they are angels! Thank you so much for sharing these beautiful captures. Stunning.

Dazzling white in our countryside always eye-candy, thanks for visiting.

It surely is, and it is amazing to see how many of them there are. Wonderful to see them graze alongside cattle.

Western Cattle Egret slightly different, they enjoy being close to animals on the move to catch insects, sometimes take a picky-back, have yellow legs and beak.

I have seen them as well! Always funny when they sit on the backs of cattle.

That dark gray sky makes an interesting combination with the white of the bird :) You got some great shots there @joanstewart

Nice photos of a very beautiful bird. Very interesting that it resides basically every where except Antarctica.

All the more reason to be out looking into your region.

Hello dear friend @joanstewart good morning
What a beautiful bird, we don't see many of these birds around here.
Beautiful shots, I appreciate you sharing with us
Have a great day

Thank you!

Those legs though 😃

Sexy legs, loved the last pose!

That bird is striking! You got some great photos of them, Joan. The lockdowns seem so long ago now, thankfully that BS is over.

Should never have happened, now we all on our toes watching moves made by powers that be try to take advantage over the population.

Private pond of this gorgeous bird made for some fantastic photography, dull skies helped in early morning as well.

I totally agree, wholeheartedly. The powers that be try their best to control us, but, us that are in the know, know how to maneuver through it all. We are all good!

So graceful with long neck and long legs, it is beauty indeed.
I was curious about the bubble gum and I googled it. 🙂 Interesting marketing strategy to make kids read facts.

Many of my generation swear blind that the learned more from "Chappies" wrappers than in school almost. !LOLZ
