There are many things which we can actually see and observe about our lives and our society when we reflect down the lane of memory. There are memories about ourselves as well as our government. Many of us didn't actually put these to mind. We just keep walking, ignoring whatever might have happened as we embark on our day to day activities without reconsidering the events around us.
Something will always trigger something. The #memoirmonday initiative by @ericvancewalton has made some of us reflect both on our lives and our countries (in the past and in the future). The link to the #memoirmonday initiative is here
There have been some horrible things which I have witnessed in my country. These are the kind of memories which I consider not too good. I want to have a recap of them.
Accumulated Bitterness And Anger From Bad Governance
Season after season, the authorities will come to the masses and promise them the whole heaven (especially during the general elections). They will usually promise that they will fix the infrastructures and amenities. And then the election comes and goes. They will enter the office but will not remember us again. Their true motives will be known then (which is to loot the country’s treasure and make away with as many resources as they can). They will transfer the country’s resources to their own accounts in foreign countries. That is the true reflection of African Leadership.
Resulting from this corrupt practice over the years, the masses which include everyone (the women, the youth, etc) have been boiling with anger and bitterness due to the pains they suffer from induced hardship and economic crises. They have shouted in the social media platforms and any other means available for them but our leaders refuse to listen. Now, they are taking to the streets to vent their disapproval of what the government is doing wrongly.
About 3 or 4 years ago, there was a national outrage which saw several youths in their thousands, in many states all over the country, break into illegal hoarding centers where items meant for distribution as palatives during the COVID-19 were hoarding by these greedy politicians. There was serious unrest in the country in those days.
How wouldn't they be trouble? Items were purchased with our national resources; some came from good minded individuals from other countries and the United Nations but criminal elements who found themselves into the corridors of power hoarded them away from the suffering masses who were meant to be alleviated from the ill effects of the pandemic.
At another time, we heard of the #endsars protest which claimed the lives of many innocent youths at the Lekki Toy Gate. That one was the smoke that came out of the undue oppression by security agents. These security agents, at all levels, have been oppressing the masses. The police who are meant to have the oversight and keep us from attack by criminal elements sometimes aid them in their illicit activities. Those on the road who are meant to control traffic and watch out for intrusion of criminals, only go there to squeeze out money from passersby. What a terrible government!
So, I have witnessed several unhealthy situations in my country which are caused by wicked politicians. Those who come to bear rule over us come with the deception that they want to do us well but in truth they are evil minded. How do we get out of this situation we have found ourselves in? This is the question in our hearts.
