Tales of the Urban Explorer: Tŷ Buarth

in Urban Exploration10 days ago (edited)

It hardly ever happens and when it does, what you get generally is a pile of crap.

Drive-bys... and I don't mean the type where we get the Tommy guns out and mercilessly spray people walking down the sidewalk with bullets.

17_IMG_9500_17.jpg

Here we don’t have ‘sidewalks’; they are called pavements and in Anglesey, Wales they are a rare sight.

Outside of the towns, it's not populous, so there is little reason to create pavements.

"Tŷ Buarth" just happened upon us as we drove back from Holyhead, on the side of a major road without a pavement. That's right; you open your door, exit through the now..., non-existent gate and you can get ploughed down by a stray eighteen-wheeler.

Not such a child-friendly house you may think, but children did live here once as we would soon discover.

On one side of this dilapidated property, people were present so we chose the other side, luckily for us,… the side with no glass in the windows.

16_IMG_9499_16.jpg

When there's a huge boulder stationed right next to one, it's a huge boon and a welcome climbing aid. Getting in was a struggle which involved a kind of leap and pull-yourself-up strategy.

Not great for me being a comparative fat bastard but as @anidiotexplores was already inside and giving me ‘Oooohs’ and ‘Aaaah', I knew this was not some boring shithole like many are.

1_IMG_9484_1.jpg

Yes, there was some gear inside, but not something to blow your load over. Who takes exercise gear with them?... these are about as desirable as Canon CX engine double-tray laser printers from the late eighties.

2_IMG_9485_2.jpg

Over there and to the left, people were present. You might think it looks like a wilderness but the view is deceptive. We had to be quiet, lest they hear us and attack with pitchforks while screaming unintelligible Welsh obscenities.

3_IMG_9486_3.jpg

Opening those drawers could result in us catching something, they looked glued together maybe with ancient body fluids.

4_IMG_9487_4.jpg

Open drawers mean rifled through… again. One day we may come across an untouched wonder with genuine closed drawers.

5_IMG_9488_5.jpg

The kitchen window seems uncomfortable small, maybe it’s just me. I like my daylight and living here appears to suit Vampires more than Humans.

6_IMG_9489_6.jpg

You won't be smiling when you see what's up here @anidiotexplores; a whole lot of nothing. This was one of those 'everything is downstairs' types of explores.

7_IMG_9490_7.jpg

The stairs were deceptive, being almost normal until you reached the top, yet kind of bendy. After that, there was little to stand on, besides fresh air.

8_IMG_9491_8.jpg

"Tŷ Buarth" for the most part had little to offer besides one room which contained some children's goodies left behind. The poor mite lost all his stuff, and it's mostly gone rotten now.

9_IMG_9492_9.jpg

@anidiotexplores had seen enough and was exiting as I pondered the 'slightly more interesting’ room. As you can see, he’s immune to glass and could probably stick a chunk up his arse and nothing would happen.

10_IMG_9493_10.jpg

1987 and 1988; not exactly vintage depending on your age., but still over 35 years old.

11_IMG_9494_11.jpg

Sadly, Thomas is never going to get from station to station running his engine on those extra rusty tracks. How could they leave ‘Thomas’ behind?

12_IMG_9495_12.jpg

1987 again, they all fit within the same age category. I don’t believe "Tŷ Buarth" has been sitting here empty for that amount of time. It’s on a major trunk road, not the back of beyond.

13_IMG_9496_13.jpg

If the contents were intact, then there would have been likely worth a penny or two. The packaging would have protected the die-cast replicas. Not that I am interested in thieving such items.

14_IMG_9497_14.jpg

Davy does not look very magic to me, just wet and ragged.

15_IMG_9498_15.jpg

The front door; no chance. That is not usually the way into abandoned properties.

Have we got the name correct, what do you think? 'Tun' does not appear to translate to anything? Don't stare too hard, it will mess with your eyes.

Name.PNG

"Tŷ Buarth" translates to "Barn House" in English (literally "House Barn"). @grindle is likely to correct me if not.

Not wonderful, but a wonderful exploring day with just one more to come from Anglesey. Then we are mostly back to the derps, shit-holes and crack houses. Lovely stuff!

Not such a child-friendly house you may think, but children did live here once as we would soon discover.

Another example, should we ever need it of the overregulation of health and safety & also planning inspector approval notices in recent years 😆

Speaking of which, Davy Crocket should likely stay right where he is as he probably exhibits views and enforces negative stereotypes that we no longer adhere to in a modern, enlightened world... Ahem...

Immune to glass, huh? Have Marvel covered that one yet, you could probably get creative license rights over that one. 🤔

Thought I would stop by and make double sure you are still behaving mischievously and crawling through spaces you have no legitimate right to be able to, happy to see that all is right with the world...

Keep on keeping on mate, hope you and yours are doing well 😎

Hello there.., yes plodding along in life's ever changing tapestry of events. Maybe @coffee (wrong name) will host another Halifax event this summer. Those are the only ones I will attend now. Hope you are doing OK.

I would have thought someone would snap that up for renovation as Anglesey seem quite popular for holiday homes. We were there last year. The walls look thick, so it could be sturdy.

Yes, it's an old building the type with super thick walls. Great in summer, freezing in winter.., it's generally warmer outside. Lovely place Anglesey, but kind of removed from society a little.

I reckon that kitchen just needs a quick once over then it's good to go!

Ha.., a little more than that needed. Just a few intact windows, many had sparse or no glass and the upstairs.., little to stand on!

You're right...poor kid lost everything. Reminds me of a shack that was in the woods by my house (upstate NY, USA). No windows. No door. One room. Comic books all over the floor. A lot of them in very readable condition. We hauled them back to the house.

Place was abandoned and we were children. Such a mystery. No other signs of habitation, as I recall. Just a whole lot of comic books.

Could be, hard to make out the words quite worn,

Is there a difference between unintelligible Welsh obscenities and anything else said in Welsh? Aside from the brandished pitchforks, perhaps?

I try my best to avoid Welshmen in the wild.. lest they attempt to chat in their language which is akin to listening to Greek for the likes of yourself.

So far.., I have had much success. Keep away is the plan, so you don't have to deal with any of their practices.

Good old Davy Crockett. Killed a bear when he was only 3 you know... What a great stroke of luck this find was!

Chat-GPT says eight years old!

What a great stroke of luck this find was!

It was a nice and unexpected finisher after a great day out, the last great day out I had.. and this was June 2023.

That's too bad things went downhill from there.

It pretty wild to see stuff stuck in time. I always see your post and get these end of world vibes

Pretty part of the country, old barn looks run down with some interesting older books and toys.

Looks like a likely location for being bought eventually, at least you got to see it. Are the wall really like 3 feet thick???

Are the wall really like 3 feet thick???

They are.., houses were extremely well built once. The older, the thicker!

Awesome, I can imagine how energy efficient such a place is! Should cost almost nothing heat or cool...

Your sense of humor is great, I was laughing at all of your comments while reading this. 😂

I agree with you about the kitchen window, it's almost claustrophobic like a prison window.

Your sense of humor is great, I was laughing at all of your comments while reading this.

Thanks, I wish more people would add some, we all want to have laugh... don't we?!

Absolutely! Laugher is the best medicine.

This time I see a building whose roof is not much damaged.

There are still items that can be recovered - the carousel!

Great sense of humour
Thanks for sharing

Those drawers reminds me of borrow movies. Aside the fact that one can contact something after touching it it looks scary as well. That is life anyways. That would have been some expensive shits in its days

Wow!

This was such an exciting adventure! It must have been fun exploring an old house like this. The pictures show how time has changed everything inside. It's interesting to see old toys and books left behind. The stairs look a little scary, but everything is pretty cool.
