When someone vouches for another person, it means they are providing a personal endorsement or guarantees for that person's character, attitude, abilities or actions. It means the one vouching has complete belief in the other person and this is a confirmation of the trust and confidence in him or her. For someone who is being vouched for, it is a testament to believing that they are reliable, honest and trustworthy. One cannot vouch for someone who is unreliable and whose actions are being questioned.
In another way, to vouch for someone means you are ready and committed to stand behind their words or actions. You trust their judgement and decisions.
For the above question, I felt this intense happiness a few days ago when someone vouched for me and I couldn't stop smiling in my mind. All my life and till now, I have been conscious of my character and actions towards other people. I try to respect everyone around me and treat them nicely. Even at my place of work, I have maintained my integrity to some extent and hearing positive comments about me makes me feel fulfilled for doing my best to remain responsible. I don't take my work with levity hands so, I commit to whatever I am being assigned to.
Just last week, there was an application that was out which is one for those interested in teaching as the state government is willing to recruit as many teachers in all government schools across all local government areas in Oyo state. I got the link from a friend and I began filling in my details. The last part of the information was to look for 3 referees who I know and can trust me. I paused and was thinking about whom to use and also needed to get their permission before filling in their details which made me suspend the process.
I thought of asking a few people at my workplace, especially the principal and older staff but was skeptical at first because I never thought there would be those who would want me to use them as referrals except you are very close to them. But I got the feeling in me that I would be helped because of my attitude towards everyone through my friendly nature.
When I got to school the next day, I met with the school principal and after explaining my purpose of coming to her, she was so excited about it and gave me the go-ahead to fill her in because she would stand for me. I could see her eagerness for me to use her and that melted my heart too. As I was thinking of the remaining two to fill in, someone suggested I meet with a male staff who is also a pastor. I met and explained to him, the next thing was for him to permit me and said something that brought up this post.
"If it's Corper Busayo, I can vouch for her. So, please go ahead. I trust you."
The word "Corper" is used for someone serving in a particular place for a year as it is a service mandatory for Nigerian Graduates below 30 yrs.
When I heard those words, I felt this feeling in me that got my eyes teary, of course, was emotional about those words because I never expected it. I thanked him and left.
That word kept ringing in my head till I got home and confirmed how good it is to put up good behaviour everywhere one finds himself or herself.
I saw his belief in me and how someone could vouch for me that way. This feeling I experienced made me write this post as a way to show my excitement and how it pays to have good behaviour and a nice attitude when you are around people because we don't know when we will need their help.
