Every Tuesday is my fasting day, and I eat only 1 meal which is dinner and its veg meal with no spices and very blend. It's like a clean up day for my gut. I do a 24 hour fasting, which starts from Monday night 8 p.m. and continues till Tuesday 8 p.m. On a daily basis I follow the 16 hrs. intermittent fasting schedule and once a week 24 hrs. fasting schedule. This type of a diet plan has worked very well for me just not in managing my weight but also managing my insulin levels.
I am not only mindful about what I eat but also how much I eat even if it is healthy. Some times we do not realize how much of additional calories gets into our body which directly impacts the health in many ways. Today morning, my cook prepared my normal meal for the night and in addition she also prepared something else, which she wanted me to eat for lunch. But I told her I will only eat at night, so she got upset. It was something new that she had tried out, I understand her feelings and love behind it, but I still cannot have it.
I explained to her, that there is a science that I am following to keep my health good. I always believe that eat only that much what your body needs. Hunger is more in the mind then in the stomach. We feel hungry as per the clock because our body is tuned to the clock. People who are habituated of having their meals at a certain time, will feel extremely hungry at that time. It is possible that the body may not need food at that time, but it still feels in the mind, just out of habit.
If you have had a heavy dinner then probably morning breakfast may not be necessary but still if it is a habit, there will be a craving for it. When I do the 24 hour fasting, if my mind is occupied in work, I do not even realize how time passes away and do not feel a need to eat, but if I am not occupied with anything then I start feeling hungry at my lunch time around 2 to 2.30, because that's my usual lunch time. If I allow this time to pass away then I am ok. I feel with food it's more about breaking the pattern. When I refuse excess food to my cook, she tells me I should eat well. Then I give her all the examples of people around me including her. For e.g. her and my hubby both eat well on their specific meal times, and both of them are unhealthy and have extra weight on them. I tell her I am neither thin nor fat, I am not low on energy, my vitals are all good, I have no health condition, which means whatever I am doing is a good practice for me and is helping me, so why mess it up.
People spend so much money on these fancy diet plans, I tell them this is no rocket science. One just needs to be mindful, keep it simple and use common sense in their diet habits. All that is needed is will power and there will be no need to spend on diet plans.
