Even though I had a good time reading this, I can see how I am not the target audience for this. That type of plot has to be really well written for me to enjoy it. For "well written" I mean that it has to make sense and it has to progress logically. Something I've noticed with the Young Adult books I've read (not many, but all with this "problem" for me) is that the characters just fall in love completely out of nowhere. Feyre and Tamlin had less than a dozen of interactions for months, and they were all mostly unpleasant. Logically, Feyre and Lucien had plenty more time to fall in love with each other. They spent time with each other, Lucien explained a lot more to her than Tamlin ever did (which could/should contribute to their connection) and at some point she even seemed to enjoy the time they spent together. Feyre and Tamlin "relationship" starts in the most problematic way possible, with him basically kidnapping her, and then evolves into a Stockholm Syndrome situation, which I guess is supposed to be cute, romantic and "enemies to lovers" or something like that, but I just can't unseen the problematic stuff.
On a more positive note, I did enjoy the politics and the setting of Phythian. I also liked that Sarah J. Maas was not afraid to use some gore elements (fairy without wings, the eye and finger that Amarantha wore, the way Feyre kills those 2 fairies), it really added up to the immersion for me and I felt more connected with the book (instead of having just romance, which I would have hated). What kept me reading was definitely the world building and the politics, the court system, the elemental/solar themes. Many unanswered questions and the peek at what the series could be shown by that last... like 100 pages of the book where things got really compelling.
With all this being said, I will be reading the second book, I am interested to know more about the Courts and the politics between them. I am aware of what happens in the next book (I watched some videos about the plot and I still remember some stuff), but I am curious to know how everything else plays out (I like the details).
Overall, this felt like a Beauty and the Best retelling with Twilight-esque characters (Feyre is exactly like Bella, honestly I imagined her as Bella all the time).
