Yesterday I received this message from my Bank about my green banking score. Something very new to me and I received it for the first time. And this makes me understand that almost every organization is working towards sustainability and reducing carbon foot print, which is a good thing. I am heavily invested in this initiative in the company where I do HR free lancing so it does matter to me a lot. Though after reviewing my score I am not very impressed with myself on my eco-friendly actions and I have to take some actions in future when it comes to banking to reduce my carbon footprint.
My score is 250, I am not sure what is the overall score and this 250 is from mow much because that's not mentioned. But they did send me my graph and I am still at the beginning line. There is lot of action needed from my side to be on the greener side.
My score is 250, so I am still in the first category and missed the second one just by 1 point. The fact is that I was not even aware and carried out my banking activity to an extent very mindlessly. Doing more online transactions will probably increase my score. Though I am not going to fall for this 100% also, because then there are some actions where they want to promote their own apps. My goal is to be in the eco-warrior position.
It's good to follow sustainable environment practices but in the banking sector it can become tricky. While online transactions are easy, I also prefer to do some cash transactions for that I need to withdraw cash on and off from the account. Also here in Mumbai not every where online payments are accepted. Like the cab drivers, very few of them accept UPI payments whereas majority of them want cash. They are small income earners and they live their life on daily wages so it's inconvenient for them to keep visiting the bank and prefer cash. Some may not even have a bank account or a debit card. Going paperless is good but I may not be able to evade it completely.
