It's the holy month of Ramadan going on where people observe fasting through out the day and at the end of the day the fast is broken with prayers and special meals. Living here in Middle East now I have become sensitive about this time period for those who follow the fast. To be very honest, back in India I would hardly notice it, but here it's not the same. Few days back when I was in India and I had visited one person who was observing fast. When I went to his shop, he offered me a bottle of water. I did not find it comfortable to drink in front of him, knowing that he was observing a fast, I did not feel it right.
Iftar meal is the first meal of the day once the fast is broken. People do invite each other for this meals. Last evening one of my hubby's corporate friend invited us for an Iftar meal which was organized at a hotel. Actually it was a corporate invite and people from the travel industry were invited. It was organized in one of the local Omani restaurant called Rozna. The restaurants has 2 parts, one is the normal restaurant and other one the banquet part. Our Iftar was organized at the Banquet. I had never visited this part of the restaurant and was very surprised to see it. The place has been beautifully made with fine architecture and designs.
Not only the interiors but the exteriors of this place is also very attractive. It looks like a fort.
The interiors
Looks very fancy and grand.
Got to meet a couple of known people from the travel fraternity after a very long time. These kind of meets are good, networking happens well in such events.
The wooden ceiling is a beautiful art work to admire in this place.
This Rice dish is one of their locals. I was stunned to see the way it was served in such a pot. Me and hubby were the last to leave the function and when we left this was still more then half full and I was thinking so much of wastage. I am sure it must be getting reused but still a lot of it must be going to waste also. I do not eat beef and hence I had to skip this dish.
There was lot of other food suiting my pallet, which I enjoyed
Most of these were traditional sweets and I do not have a taste for it, so this part was also skipped.
And some refreshments
My plate :-)
After some really hard days for the last few weeks, this outing was a refreshing and also me and hubby got to meet quite a few of our old colleagues.
